Apparently she used the old “North London elites” trope again. She was probably hoping that the Jews would be preoccupied but it hasn’t gone unnoticed with everyone.

Having not heard of that being an anti-semitic reference before, I can only think of two things:

  • This is a product of anti-semitism prevalent in the Conservative Party’s circles
  • She’s trying to portray Starmer, Corbyn, Thornberry, etc. as elites

  • Truss hit out at what she called the “anti-growth coalition” - compromising a variety of her political rivals - and said she had the vision to see the country through tough times

What kind of dumbfuckery is this! This is the same as Trump calling out a group of Antifa Fascists. Who doesn’t want economic growth?

I think the full phrase “People taking taxis from their north London townhouses to the BBC” is a bit more telling as it is essentially the “rich Jews control the media” trope which has been around for well over 100 years. In Britain, the news media is largely owned and run by Tory party backers. What she is saying is that any news media that doesn’t uncritically support the Tories is the product of a (Jewish) conspiracy.

I suspect that she is actually too stupid to realise what she is saying but it looks like there is some nasty piece of work behind the scripts.

I meant it more in the sense that it but be such a common thing to say in Conservative Party circles that she included it in as a way to gin up support, while being so clueless as to not recognise that implications.

It’s been remarkable , at least to me , just how much the rhetoric coming from the Tories now seems to ape the kind of ‘enemy within’ bombast that passes for political discourse in the US. It wasn’t that long ago that Labour was the party of class war. Speaker after speaker have confirmed that that shoe is firmly on the other foot now.

Apparently another Truss quote: PM Truss; “SNP will not build Nuclear Power Plant to solve Scotland’s energy crisis”

  • Scotland doesn’t have an energy crisis. It’s a net exporter.
  • As a result there is no need to build new nuclear stations in Scotland because the energy is required in the South of England.
  • Energy policy in Scotland is a reserved matter for Westminster.
  • Scotland wants to produce a great deal more renewable energy which it has massive capacity for. Unfortunately the transmission costs which Westminster controls are much high from Scotland and this prevents more cheap energy production for the rest of the UK:
Scotland’s energy producers ‘unfairly penalised’ by Westminster | The Scotsman

I think Truss is a stupid as she looks but she is still proposing solutions that are massively out of kilter with reality.

So she walked out to a song from a band they never approached to get permission to use their song, and the band are actually vocal anti-tory - if they weren’t so hell bent on destroying the country, it would be laughable

The first I heard of it as being an antisemitic trope was when a Labour MP (Corbyn?) was called out for using the phrase. Why is it an antisemitic trope? There are loads of rich (metropolitan) elites in North London of all faiths. Why is it particularly perceived as being directed at Jews? Simply because there is a concentration of Jewish communities up around Muswell Hill etc?

I assume this is the UK, is that right mate?

Yes (chart source is Tax revenue vs GDP per capita - Our World in Data)

Ireland flying in that chart.
