UK Politics Thread (Part 2)

Even after May, Boris, and Lizzy?

Ah, the good old days before the Telegraph became a home for demented rightwing loons.

May was decent compared to those that followed,
But people seem to have had enough, even those from the Telegraph.

At this rate, imagine the next Tory PM :grimacing:

With any luck they`ll still be in nursery.

You know what bugs me about this. Have they all of sudden forgotten the disaster that was 3 years of Johnson? He’s currently walking free of scrutiny earning Ā£150k an hour for a public engagement the other night. Probably got fish and chips for it too.

Truss is rightly getting lambasted but the decline started with Johnson. I’d argue the seeds were sown much earlier but the voting figures dont corroborate that.

I like Hastings’ books but never realised he was an editor for the Telegraph. Having now done a bit of reading about him it does indeed seem he was there in saner times.

It does suggest they have large brains though.

They dont necessarily see Johnson as a complete disaster, at least not for all of his term. There was a thin veneer of successful leadership under Johnson, of offering something to the poorer parts of society through levelling up, the vaccine and covid response etc. His willingness to announce increased spending made it harder for labour to differentiate themselves.

Truss has none of that. She has openly trashed the last decade of tory rule to pose as an outsider while having to u turn on announcement after announcement. Her move to the right has left the centre there for Labour to take.

Sensible leadership could have given the tories a bounce in the polls and a good chance of winning the election despite Johnson’s manner of exit. That looks much harder to achieve now.

Pound is trading upward, at least in part on the perception that Truss and Kwarteng are done already.
