UK Politics Thread (Part 2)

With all the pubs closing, where would they work?!?

I wonder if this is a good time for Starmer to table a motion of no confidence in the government?

Let them scramble to either support Truss or have a GE?

I would like to know how privatisation would work. If you have an insufficient pool of resources which you then move to the private sector, how do they then multiply into a pool of sufficient resources?

I thought the same thing.

If the Tories do scramble to support her, they’ll look even more out of touch with the public.

Also means they have to support her policies and stick with her

:see_no_evil:

Because the Private Sector are magical and can run better public services on less money, while also taking a dividend for their shareholders.

Ah of course, mushrooms and money trees

Probably intentionally timed.

“Illegal immigration” is often, although not always, tied to modern slavery. There have even been cases of people on visas being tied to slavery but someone who is shipping humans in under the radar is really not going to be too concerned about their welfare.

This is an entirely separate issue to refugees and asylum seeker who, by definition, want to be visible to the authorities.

Outside of that most immigration issues are related to overstaying visas which is often an administration issue rather than anything to do with crime syndicates.

This is just to feed into the narrative that “illegals” are taking all the housing, benefits, NHS and so on which is not just untrue but technically impossible.

100% correct.

The fact you can’t get a hospital appointment or anything else, for that matter, is nothing to do with decades of underinvestment. It’s all immigrants’ fault.

With a budget having been announced, it would be easy for Tories to hold the line. It would be better to wait until after that takes place.

Looks like the PM is strongly considering another U turn - this time the corporation tax cut

For me I don’t think Labour should be allowing them to go through another leadership contest.

Judging by their record for choosing leaders of late, that might be Labours best option. Each new leader, the general response is, it can’t get any worse yet the tories manage to not only defy but prove the public totally wrong. At the current rate, I could see the tories going through 2 more leaders and finding themselves even more hated than the Lib-Dems were under Clegg

Another classic from Yes Minister. “The civil service is about surviving for many years, politics is about surviving till Friday afternoon.” I hope she’s gone by the weekend. Why the HELL did anybody vote for her??? Is it purely racism from the blue haired in the South East? Regardless, she’s surely done for.

Part of me can’t wait for a GE and Labour to get in. I’d say the boot will be on the other foot but for the first 10 years it will all be the Tories’ fault.

Will be like the United thread, schardenfreud on a stick. Sp x 20.

Wouldn’t Johnson be odds-on to replace Truss if they had another leadership contest?

No, I imagine there is search going on for a unity candidate as we speak.
