UK Politics Thread (Part 2)

I try to be brave even though yes, you are right, it’s scary to venture into this topic for sure. What madness or Lovecraftian political horror will I read about next ? But yes, I try to be brave and soldier on and roll the dice.

Because her party is facing an election wipeout, particularly if she remains leader going into it.

Leaf it out will you. We’re steaming towards an iceberg and all the romainers can do is round on her. You’re a real little gem.

I fear the economic situation for a hell of a lot of people in the UK is going to be terribly difficult in the coming years :frowning: The upper middle class will survive fine, just have less cash. But the “lower” Middle Class and the Working Class will get it bad…

Also, where to raise the cash apart from tax raises ? NHS, Defence, education, Police ? There is not enough money to cut in stuff like culture to even make a big dent.

Bloody hell, that’s one hell of a one liner

I think the windfall tax will have to come, with a freeze on benefits and below inflation rises for government workers.

No idea where else, the NHS is at collapse with waiting lists topping 7million now, covid once again on the rise and more staff leaving than they can recruit. Even the buildings are giving up.

Everywhere I look I see public services struggling, businesses struggling and the energy stuff will start to bite this next month I think if not already for some businesses.

I honestly cant see where the cash comes from without the government really breaking their own philosophy (for want of a better word) on taxation etc.

Fair point. I will try to do better and write just very long and awkward, but still technically correct grammatical sentences instead; so that I am on point and don’t confuse too many people with my sudden burst of various connected words.

It will most likely be harrowing  I don’t think a windfall tax is even enough. I am not exactly an economic expert but the deficit is so large and they have to also please the market to make those bonds more favorable.
A shitty situation.

I dont think it is either, but t might make a dent but the energy companies get a few months to sort their affairs out and reduce the potential tax burden.

Tax fraud is always a favourite that comes up in times like these. That would cover it I think but they have to find it first.

The really scary thing is that Hunt is a real hatchet man when he gets going. He’ll play the Austerity card as Cameron did an hammer public services and still funneling money into well hidden pockets. I can see the debt increasing, as it did under Cameron, but its fine cause we’re in Austerity.

Where’s the Surstromming?

Where’s @iftikhar when you need him?

That gif he always posts of the kid crossing his fingers and going “please” would be perfect here.

The Conservatives would be wiped out if Truss led them into the next election.

They will be wiped out any way.

Great reminder of how ideological and out of touch the right wing media are - here they are lauding the Truss and Kamikwasi’s ‘best budget in my lifetime’ and a ‘true tory budget’:

And yet they’ve been brainwashing the masses for decades.
