I dont know. I thought the Priti Patel fiasco showed that the Ministerial code didnt have any bite as the PM is the final arbiter on breaches.
I guess he could argue he stepped down once so has done the time and been re-elected.
Johnsons numbers are falling
Obviously different outlets are listing names following slightly different criteria ( i.e level of confirmation).
He does have a big ego, but he is also very lazy and vain enough to want to be seen only as a winner. Which is why it isnt clear yet if he does want to become PM next week.
Boris believes it is in the national interest that he return, and he could be right.
It would split the Tories, create a wave of defections, and force the general election we so badly need.
I’m not sure they had time to…
Labour should be making this front-page news everywhere.
Not sure I see Rishi accepting this while he thinks he has a chance to win the contest himself. If true probably just an opportunity to then blame Rishi for the party not uniting.
Interestingly it is being said this morning that Johnson may get suspended anyway because of the evidence No 10 has already given the privileges committee.
There already were divisions. A confidence vote wouldn’t have made any difference. Stepping back and letting them continue making a mess was the best way forward.
Just to add, I think some polls had him at great risk of losing his seat in any election. That might prompt him to want to become leader to minimise any suspension by the privileges committee. It also increases the likelihood of him being subject to a recall petition by his constituency.
That should be the way every leader takes control.
A Gladiator style battle to the death in a stadium full of the population baying for blood.
Patton?
Considering the high turnover of PMs in recent years, should the #10 be renamed #9¾
Is No 10 listed on Airbnb?
From today’s Torygraph:
Enter Tory HQ. Officials there are fearful that, if they cut members out of the decision, they could be sued by someone claiming a constitutional right to vote on a new party leader. That’s why there’s a plan to let the members choose between the final two candidates, if the second candidate cannot be prevailed upon to drop out.
You couldn’t make it up. Now why would the Telegraph plant this seed into the minds of its readership?
From the same article:
Given that most Tory MPs now expect to lose their seat at the next election – some are even talking about how they’d struggle to find work and pay bills – they need a winner more than anything else.
My heart bleeds for them. Not.
HAHAHAHA
FMD
Some Tory fuck on the BBC right now saying a GE won’t solve the problem.
Christ Almighty.
Also, ‘You can’t blame the Tory party membership.’
Arguing we should be thankful for the shortened process.
What a time to be alive.
