UK Politics Thread (Part 2)

That’s a fair point. There are hundreds of thousands probably far smarter than a lot of these Tories and have no recourse to shine because they were born in the wrong regions or have the “wrong” accents

Exactly If he would have said listen Dutch in Britain we call him Asian or brown not black I would have thanked him for his help as I have done on many occasions.

Ill step up and apologise for adding clown. It was reactive on my part after a rather long day.

The reason for that reaction was driven by your choice of emoji…which is questionable (imo).

Thanks @Livvy

I don’t think people realise that for a long time in the US (and possibly in other countries), if you were not white, often the only other option was black - on official forms.

p.s. and people wonder whether there is such a thing a institutional racism
p.p.s and indeed not acknowledging institutional poverty - as the same disenfranchisement can be applied to the individual institutionalised in poverty

When have we had a poor PM - from the lowest rung of society?

Not sure what your point is.

I really appreciate that rupzzz. :+1:

The emoji was chosen because I think it is funny that a conservative party was the first with a female PM and now an Asian PM. The Irony.

Although this is assuming there’s no SNP candidate, which isn’t going to happen.

Sorry - I was caught up with the whole, “it’s not his fault he’s rich and wants to do rich people things”.

As to whether he can unite the Conservatives, I’m not so sure - and it has nothing to do with intelligence or his hue.

Does it matter…he could be pink, yellow, green, or red dotted…as long as he sorts this country out.

Come on, I really don’t like his politics and sometimes I think he is rather difficult if someone is careless enough to say anything positive about Ajax, but he said black when he is brown and of Indian ethnic origin and not African (but his parents were born in Africa). It’s not that bad. In the US you have people with the slightest of sun-tan calling themselves black, when in reality many Spaniards and Portugese who have darker skin, are called white by generally the same people. These matters can be fluid and is about identity primarily. It’s not like genuine racists would care that (alright, if they had a hierarchy I admit Punjabi would probably be a bit higher up than Bantu, but you get the point) much if he is Punjabi or Bantu. What matters most is that he looks decidedly non-European and certainly non-Anglo-Saxon or Celt, to those people. Dutch didn’t cross any line and was not insulting anyone.

Many of us are not super happy when they log on to the forum, me included, and it shows. Personally I am considering a break because I am tired of having to take shit from people who go out of their way to “nail” others because of some percived imperfection. I think the general mood of the forum is rather passive agressive.

Sorry, didn’t see this. Never mind my post and please don¨t take offense (although I don’t think I wrote anything insulting, but if I did, then i am sorry).

I sense I am a bit dejected about the forum really.

I am almost considering creatimg a Norwegian politics thread, just to make people smile and laugh, though it would probably be too much effort with the translations.
