Dear, oh Dear. The arch villian.

Sounds like he was very skilled at developing complete cunts.

She looks like she has been used as one!

One of the sources. Never let yourself be deceived into thinking there’s just one source…

That gap should close a fair bit, but not all the way. Will be interesting to see where it levels out at

We’re forever being told by the media that we are the world’s sixth largest economy (we were fourth before the “good with the economy” Tories came in, but don’t mention that), but the fact is that the UK is an estimated 26th when you look at GDP per capita.

There is a lot of wealth in the UK but it is concentrated in relatively few hands.

I’m not questioning this assertion, but the GDP per capita comparison to the whole GDP figure doesn’t give any information about equality. It only states that when you take population into account, the population of the UK only actually has the 26th highest GDP.

It could be that it was perfectly evenly distributed (ha) and that every other nation was perfectly unevenly distributed (accruing only to one person per country), which would still mean that the average UK citizen comes up on top.

Other more useful (but still inadequate) metrics to look at would probably be the median income per person adjusted for purchasing power, or the Gini coefficients. On their own, they don’t really tell the full story.

So, what is the real story? Because when I visit the UK (the north, admittedly), it doesn’t feel like the sixth largest economy in the world, and if it is, the rest of the world must be in terrible shape.

I wasn’t disagreeing with @cynicaloldgit about the conclusion, I was just pointing out that those numbers don’t tell the story that he’s leading to.

You’re right, it looks dilapidated and there aren’t a lot of prospects. Years and years of austerity and cuts in service and cutting ties with your biggest trading partner will do that

Well that was always gonna happen…

Will that spook or sedate the markets?

‘the world’s sixth largest economy’ … and that’s mainly down to the financial services sector.
