UK Politics Thread (Part 2)

UK stay away!!!

Iā€™m not entirely sure itā€™s actually a deterrent?

Maybe actually opening up a legal route to asylum would help cut the business of traffickers, just spitballing here.

I think first of all there needs to be a recognition that thereā€™s a massive difference between a refugee and a migrant.
I think part of theit reasoning for the Rwanda idea is to send a message to migrants that theyā€™ll be shipped off to a nice warm country

Except there is nothing in the governmentā€™s language to suggest they acknowledge a difference - they see them all as economic migrants despite a majority of those who claim asylum in the UK getting it.

Have you seen the statistics on asylum claims?

Thereā€™s precious little to suggest that the vast majority of claims are illegitimate.

If the government really cared about cutting off the smugglers at the knees (figuratively), then they would open up asylum routes. End of story.

Sounds fine to me.

Amazing how many people suddenly discover that they agree with every Tory policy once they start drawing their pension.

Maybe Iā€™m seeing it too simplistically, but a refugee takes refuge at the first port of call outside the country where they are in danger.
A migrant often crosses multiple borders.
The UK seems to be a popular target for people who have crossed every border in Europe.
Why is that, I donā€™t know the answer?

The other main reason is that they are specifically tied to the UK which is usually the case for Afghan and Iraqi asylum seekers who were working for the British military.

You donā€™t happen to read any right-wing rags do you?

Thereā€™s no requirement for them to have to do that. And often they do, which is why youā€™ll see that countries such as Lebanon are actually overwhelmed with refugees, not the UK which doesnā€™t even come close.

EDIT: Just to be clear, the first line is not a personal attack on anyone. It is however a direct attack on the pathetic standards of ā€œjournalismā€ in this country, and the disinformation that gets put out by those hate-peddling shiterags

Truss lost more than that in under 2 months

What a woman :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Yes and actually doing some processing. The number of claims assessed under this current government has fallen to some pathetic number.

Only when you sort out the routes and the processing can you properly send failed claims or economic migrants back.

Oops.

Thatā€™s all those remoaners fault. Donā€™t know how they managed it.

The general answer you would get from those on the right is that the negativity affected the economy extremely negative. All of Brexit was of course suppposed to happen in a vacum of euphoric old fashioned patriotism, making the economy boom. Thatā€™s the general logic anyway, such as it is.
Also, EU is cruel and refused to conform to UK wishes as to how a proper divorce should be, and this of course, could not have been foreseen by the genius experts on the right.

Nope.
But from the tone of your question Iā€™m guessing youā€™re fully subscribed to the opposite end of the spectrum.

Iā€™m not even fully familiar with this right wing, left wing, slightly left of centre and false nine descriptions of political beliefs, such is my general disinterest in following politics

Youā€™ve literally just commented on a thread called ā€œUK Politics Threadā€.

TBF the whole left wing - right wing spectrum is a bit simplistic.

The second factor is largely why there is no such requirement. If one was imposed you wouldnt get the buy in you need from those countries who already do much of the heavy lifting.
