Too right, in fact that is the role of politics. If it’s not messy then the disagreements and issues are pushed underground and then arise elsewhere - like via revolution!
Parliament needs to be torn down and built again.
Due to the age of the building asbestos may be a concern.
Or they may be more worried about the amount of cocaine embedded everywhere.
Nobody who works outside the government has ever got drunk and flirty away from home working…… Come on bud, better stories than this are in the Metro.
Nobody expects them to be perfect, but I think the issue is to do with how seriously they are taking the job, and the impression they are giving to the public, who put them in office to serve the country.
After a long list of partying mistakes during lockdown, it is reasonable for the public to expect some professionalism.
At what number of refugees would the UK become overwhelmed?
Good question. I’d say at least a couple of million more perhaps?
Would that be refugees or economic migrants?
Compare to other countries. There are plenty which have more refugees (%) and which haven’t collapsed.
People in the UK seem to think it’s the only country that has refugees.
Sex workers and getting drunk while on international business.
I mean I should be thankful there is no mention of sexual assault this time.
Jesus Christ man. Stop tugging that forelock.
This isn’t getting a bit ‘flirty’. If you read the article, it’s stuff like engaging sex workers. Turning up in another country and immediately asking where to find the nearest brothel. There is a culture of sexual proclivity and, as these trips are often hosted by foreign states, a huge potential for incrimination and blackmail within our government.
And finally, since I am aware you have a perverse desire to want to go to the wall for a Tory party that wouldn’t piss on you if you were on fire, these are All Party trips, which is why I referred to Parliament rather than Government. You have to assume it isn’t just Tories wrapped up in this (although it wouldn’t be surprising if they form the majority of the complaints)
I’m sure those sex workers are fully empowered and in control young women making an informed and uncoerced choice about their actions.
More or less 3% of the population. On the basis of at least a couple of million or more.
If refugee numbers were moving towards your number, would you suggest the UK do something? So it does not become overwhelmed. If the UK did become overwhelmed, would you suggest the UK do something different? In theory at least.
The UK is already overwhelmed.
Not by immigrants, but by years of Tory neglect.
Boom. There it is in a nutshell.
Spent billions and what has the UK got from it?
Just to be extra troll’ish - the billions spent haven’t gone to waste. The rich now have enough to see them over until the Tories come back in…
I think it’s fair to say that there’s a need to tackle immigration. There’s no control of it, the processes for managing it are not in place and as far as refugees go, there’s no safe routes. So in reality it is out of control.
That’s 100% on the government and not whoever the Mail, Telegraph and Express are blaming this week. It’s also not down to the fact that we signed up to free movement as part of the EU either.
Build a wall. Build a wall.
All jokes aside, I would think that by not trying to welcome and integrate these refugees the UK is neglecting its own future. Plenty of these people have valuable skills and cultural value that could only enrich the UK.
I do think there is a debate to be had over what volumes of immigration per year should be accepted, but I think that no one in politics is trying to solve this in good faith at all. When I say overwhelmed, I mean in terms of the support systems available to take on the task of this integration. It boggles the mind that these are people, some of whom have highly desired skills in areas facing shortages, and yet they’re barred from working because this government is ideologically committed to satisfying the racists and shutting down processing capabilities and legal routes to asylum.
That’s not even to go into the moral obligations, especially with regards to some of the refugees (cf. the Afghan/Iraqi people who formerly supported the British operations in their countries and who now face retribution).
The problem will be that Labour will have to build a (immigration) policy and it’s always easier to take shots at something that is being started up. It is a ready made runway to start to destroy Labour in their first election cycle. Whether Labour get in for a second term will come down to how quickly the electorate forget the Tory reign and whether there is a credible (?) togetherness within the Tory party within that time…
