UK Politics Thread (Part 2)

For info the UK has the lowest numbers of doctors in western Europe.

For sure the pandemic has played a part in this but when you look at the figures of what has been happening they tell a different story. Waiting lists for example have been increasing since 2010 and accelerating year on year. They certainly have jumped as a result of the pandemic but the trend was set way back

Michelle Donelan, the Culture Secretary, on the Parthenon Sculptures:

“… we should keep them as we have to protect our culture.”

Errrrrr… they’re not ours, you silly bint.

Good point. People are often kept in a hospital bed for the want of a bandage on a minor wound.

That last fucking comment has done me in.

I’ll be tasting that vomit for some time

Really ? Never heard of minor wounds being bandaged at hospitals unless the person being bandaged is very weak or in hospital for other reasons. At least in my country such matters are for the doctor and the local Doctor’s Emergency Room (I tried translating Legevakt, not so sure of the term emergency room is correct, but maybe it is). I mean, if you are just going to sew up a few stiches, they don’t send you to a hospital unless it is very complicated ?

Edit: I guess it depends on the definition of minor wound.

Certainly part of the issue. Minor injury units do exist but there are insufficient numbers and questionable access in some cases. Basically people can and do end up in A&E with minor injuries.

It’s just another example of how the whole system is failing.

When one part fails it falls on another to pick up the slack. The two main ones at the bottom of the food chain are A&E and the ambulance service.

I don’t think they are. This feels like the usual Tory tactic of trying to push the blame for the NHSs failings onto the public who use it.

Here is a very sobering fact. In 2009 the NHS was rated the best healthcare service in the world. It had a thirty year high patient satisfaction.

Since 2010 it has been declining steadily and is in now in crisis. In just twelve years the best healthcare system in the world can’t get people ambulances, has people dying on trolley’s in corridors, and staff striking for the first time in its history.

That’s what the Tory party does to a public service.

Where as before they just sat you on a chair. Conclusion there’s no chairs in the UK as they have forgotten how to sit down!

Along with funding issues introduced by the conservatives I would certainly like to know what else they’ve done to create this mess. It goes deeper than just money and in reality all the way back to Thatchers time in laying the foundations for the individual trust system. I think it’s also fair to be questioning of Labours time in government pre 2010. While NHS funding etc. was at its highest, they also continued the privatisation trend. It can be argued that created an unstable foundation.

But as you say it worked back then. It’s not working now so other than funding what else has changed?

Erosion of other public services for sure which then get heaped onto the NHS but I don’t think that’s the full picture.

Wow what a convient thing , just to confirm can you verify that it became shit almost immediately after the labour PM left ?

And why 30 year satisfaction? To emphasise that we had the Blair years…coupled with the Tory government of major and thatcher but no mention of the labour government before thatcher?

Just seems as a labour member your dates are always skewered for political reasons

or more likely the NHS has been skewered for political reasons.

I agree , but you look at the fact that mascots posts go only from 2010 to 1980…thatcher got in 1979…and it’s almost as though it was only convenient posted, what was the satisfaction rating previously under the labour government before her I wonder?

The fact is we have 600 plus pricks sat in parliament doing fuck all except having soundbites to each other etc and the twats have everything paid for , meanwhile the rest of the country are struggling with real problems and are being offered nothing real to help with financial worries here and now.

Country is fucked and we have no real leaders offering solutions now. Apologies , but as you stated it’s annoying that everything seems to be used for political soundbites and enriching of those elected , whilst everyone just has to get on with it as usual .

I’ve just had a quick look and I can only see statistics for service satisfaction going back to 1983. It’s entirely possible that comparable statistics weren’t kept before that time.
