In some states, and I’m going to guess these are more likely to be red states, you have to provide proof of medical transition before you are allowed to legally change your gender. That puts people who think they are transgender and their parents in an awful bind. Continue with miserable suicidal kids, or allow them the surgery they were probably going to need anyway.
That’s exactly the problem we want to avoid. Decouple gender from the medical profession, and it means you can punt the surgical final step into adulthood.
Maybe I’m misreading your post but that’s not the point I was trying to make. Evidence suggests that gender dysphoria has underlying biological mechanisms, almost enough to justify the experience of “being born in the wrong body”.
Mate, I totally agree with you. I was using your point to jump off about the sanctity of biology in the eyes of some people.
Biology is fucking stupid. Loads of us get bad backs because we’re not properly adapted to walk upright. We still have an appendix that does nothing that is prone to explode and kill us. A few year ago my immune system decided to attack itself, and I had to have half my thyroid killed of to prevent me eventually dying.
We’re constantly in a battle against biological reality. And yes, our biology can sometime pump out little boys born with little girl bits, little girls with little boys bits, and a plethora of variations in between.
Biology doesn’t give a shit how much pain, distress, discomfort or misery we are in, as long as we do our primary job of making new little humans and replicating our DNA.
But, in the context of the transgender issue, suddenly people want to put Biology on some kind of pedestal, where it can’t be argued with or corrected? Just like fifty years ago when people were also arguing that homosexually was ‘against biological reality’?
Not having it at all. ‘Biological reality’ is another way of expressing bigotry.
If there was a simple biological marker for these kind of things it would make life much easier.
As ever with these things there is a spectrum of causes some of which could be genetic and others environmental - particularly in terms of pre-natal environment which is why many people who have various developmental oddities often have them from birth.
I think I phrased it poorly. What I understood from that article was that there are several biological mechanisms in which gender dysphoria may be expressed, such that two people experiencing gender dysphoria may have differing underlying physical conditions.
This is present in terms of association, however, it is not possible to draw a definitive causative link unless the direct mechanisms producing such effects are identified, or some other method to demonstrate or elucidate the causation.
What I do think it does show however, is that gender dysphoria is biological fact, that there are definite differences with neurology where gender dysphoria is present.
Don’t want to see you banned, you’re too entertaining.
Multiple use of prejudice, bigotry, snowflake, and you have on more than one occasion called someone a racist.
Just follow your own guidelines more closely, you’re doing fine otherwise
