Like @Bekloppt said, you just got played…
Oh don’t worry…chocolates…
are being requested…no not requested…demanded…
Played like a fiddle!
This was a non-story in the book thread as it’s a non-story now.
It’s really important when these issues arise that you really start from who is making these changes and for what purpose.
In this case it’s his estate who changed it either from a genuine desire to make Dahl’s work more accessible or from a cynical cash grab angle.
Just like when the museum decided to change it’s outdated display last year.
I absolutely agree that they should not have to do these things because of public outcry or government intervention and I would speak out against that. I very much DISagree with school book banning in the US - but the thing to do there is to encourage children to read those banned books. Find out what they don’t want you to know.
Everything should be personal choice. I read 5 books by Mark Twain but wouldn’t read anymore because of his racist attitudes. Don’t particularly care of other people want to read him though.
Do you mean that you very much disagree with it?
I was trying to type in a rush while walking to a meeting. Hopefully fixed now!
Just to be clear, the Roald Dahl situation was nothing to do with woke warriors demanding changes.
The changes were commissioned by the Dahl Estate and Penguin, with an eye on protecting the profitability of their books for the next thirty years.
I’m woke/progressive/lefty/whatever, and I’m fucking sick to back teeth of copping the blame for corporations making financial decisions that people don’t like.
Psst Nobody tell @Magnus about the Bond novels.
Surprised that there’s been no comments on today’s budget in here.
Levelling up, Tory style.
Not ready to ruin my day just yet…
Not as important as Roald Dahl.
nobody fuck with Roald Dahl. I still have all of the books from when I was a kid.
when I went to London, I simply HAD to have a toad-in-the-hole just like Danny’s favorite meal by his dad.
didn’t have a kitchen available at the hotel.
I get it. defeats the idea though. kind of like having coddle, I’m not going to eat it until I get to Ireland and have a pint of Guinness.
More low hanging fruit?
I travelled to Cullen one time just to get a bowl of Cullen Skink… Mmmm!
hrmmm…I may have to look into this one.
Skink is traditional in the Maritimes, Cape Breton in particular, not surprisingly
there’s a lot of smoked fish over here as well, just a different type. mostly cod/halibut for whitefish.
