UK Politics Thread (Part 3)

But the UK made a mess of the response - do you think that British people are among the most selfish and irresponsible in the developed world?

Not sure this is totally correct. Iā€™m pretty sure the government did have procedures in place - it was reluctance of Johnson & co to follow them, underfunding by the conservative Governments over the last decade and choosing to use private organisations rather than existing health networks to run things like test and trace that created bigger problems.

There was a previously planned response. I know because I worked on it. No two pandemics will be the same so there will have to be changes as more becomes known. However, the government appear to have been throwing spanners in the works from the off.

Just to be clear, Iā€™m not defending the government handling of Covid.
They are an organisation riddled with lying, cheating, thieving deceitful specimens.

But thereā€™s a very disturbing trend in todays society, that when people do something wrong/irresponsible/nasty/evil, thereā€™s always a question asked about what/who made them do that.

No-one want to take accountability for their actions these days, the instant search function kicks in to find someone/something to blame for it.

I canā€™t agree with that sorry. Most people did what they were told. They were told that it was safe to eat out, so they did.

The government actively ignored the advice of experts, in my view because they preferred to funnel money to their cronies rather than businesses that couldnā€™t operate.

The messaging was all over the place but the evidence for the likelihood of what would happen was easily found in Italy for example.

A huge sction of society is still a minority compared to the entire population.
Still enough to do damage though.
3000 football supporters from Madrid?
Tens if not hundreds of thousands all over the country who thought it was a good idea to gather en masse to protest about a random bloke in America who was killed by police officers?

Regardless of advice or policy, enough selfish wankers around to accelerate something like Covid.

As I said, Iā€™m not defending the tories, but I wont give a free pass to hundreds of thousands of utterly selfish cunts who didnā€™t give a flying fuck about their own health or anyone elses.

Pretty much like United.

I think youā€™re underestimating 11 year olds.

JRM, MJ or BJ for PM before the spring GE?

Who let the 3000 Madrid fans in? They should have never been allowed in.

It was government failure everywhere. I remember reading on here how foolish going ahead with the Cheltenham festival was at the very start of the pandemic. Johnson was ignoring COBRA meetings at the time I think. Likewise the Stereophonics concert in Cardiff. Indoors! You could lay the blame for that one on the Welsh government maybe but ultimately it had to come from Johnson and co.

Once the messaging got screwed up the fuckwits, and I agree with you they are out there, took full advantage of it. It wasnā€™t helped by the government not following their own rules either. I had a few in my neck of the woods. Visiting theirs or other peopleā€™s second homes and so on.

So, basically a government fuck up made 100 times worse by selfish cunts with no concern for anyone.

Agreed.

I wouldnā€™t put Braverman to have a go at trying for it

Who is MJ?

If you mean Michael Jackson, heā€™s got more chance than the other twoā€¦ despite being dead.
