UK Politics Thread (Part 3)

WTAF?!?

My capacity to be surprised at the UK was just starting to flatline.

This is ‘raise a peasant army and march on London’ stuff…

I just read this on the train on the way home and had the exact same reaction.

I hope they do it fast

I’d never heard of them but it sounds like an interesting concept.

but for the previous 70 years, those monies went to Queen Elizabeth II. they’re just making Charles out as a scapegoat here.

Still, shocking!!!

Nothing surprises me about the Monarchy. The only thing surprising is that we still tolerate the antics of these inbred cunts.

Oh, absolutely, definitely not something Charles has done. Just a bizarre institution, where here I would have read ‘becomes the property of the Crown’ to mean it vests with the government. It would never have entered my mind that it becomes akin to personal property.

they just add it to the trust fund. it’s not “personal property” but it belongs to the monarchy. it’s their legacy payments for “a lifetime servitude to the people of England” or somethign like that.

the rich get richer…I’m really starting to “get” socialism at this point.

If you contributed even a fraction to society that most royals do, I’d be flabberghasted.

Reading about bona vacantia seems absurd. The monarchy should not be benefitting from the assets of deceased people with no will and no heirs.

It strengthens the argument to abolish the monarchy.

Where is the balance between what you earn in a life time and what you can pass on? Would zero inheritance is a good thing? In an ideal world, yes but, but, people and institutions can be asses.

I think I’d we paid people according to the financial benefit they bring to the country or society we’d be in a very different place I think .

Would it be acceptable for me to say that you can’t see past your own fucking politics?

Not that I would, I’m not that hostile.

Just a thought.

So you think the royals should be paid more?

Well he did profit from the Duchy of Cornwall, maybe less people but the number of old and dying is probably similar.

Okay. Didn’t expect that response! Royals in more-effective-than-the entire-cabinet (any flavour of govt) plus all govt secretaries and high court and appeal judges shocker. Right… :scream:

Personally I wouldn’t pay them a single penny. I think they’re a worthless symbol of a past era that the UK shouldn’t really be that proud of, and the embodiment of many issues that plague modern society.

Correction, not worthless. They are a lesson we should move away and learn from.

They bring nothing to the UK imo but happily leach a “salary” from all of us.

This is true, we often forget how much their majesty’s contribute to society.

Whenever there is something that needs opening, by cutting a ribbon or pulling a little curtain, they never back down. If they ever need to sit at an official function with a face like a smacked arse, they don’t let you down

And all they ask in return is a phenomenal amount of cash, historic residences, immunity from prosecution, the ability to vet and privately lobby acts of Parliament, vast estates of land, and a blind eye turned to the occasional nonce in the family.

What a bargain.

You do know that the monarchy brand contributes 3 times the amount to the economy than they cost to support?

But don’t let that fact stop people adding them to their ever growing list of things to complain about.

What a miserable life you must lead.
Never happy unless you have something to whinge about.

I’d wager that even the lower ranking obscure royals do more for charitable organisations than you could ever dream of doing.
