UK Politics Thread (Part 3)

You’re no @GermanRed

I would suggest that says far more about how social class has been imprinted in your UK upbringing and expectations of who should be in charge than who would actually do well over a negotiation table with Putin.

Starmer just doesn’t have that Truss factor

A Boris fan and staunch Brexiteer goes over to Labour

And listen to her words

“The elected Prime Minister (Boris) was ousted in a coup led by the unelected Rishi Sunak”.

She took over the seat from her husband who was jailed for sexual assault. I’m sure they will make her very welcome but…

I’m just fascinated by the discussions in the UK. Our current chancellor has the natural charisma of an uncharismatic accountant, his current main rival from the opposition makes Mr Burns look like a charming guy.

I suspect that’s the case. I’d far rather than than the buffoon who will stick on an England shirt on when there is a big game coming up and then disappear the second it is over.

He also railed mad Nads.

So by using porn maths that means LauraK and mad Nads has lezzed out.

Ill just leave that image to fester in your mind

Actually I would. Given that the Kompromat file on Boris was probably several lever arch files thick, Sunak has been catapulted into the PM role via back door support that is shady as hell and Cameron who is basically a crook with a posh accent, a suit and is happy enough to sell the country to the far right loonies that took an already broken country and set fire to it.

All of that vs a highly qualified legal expert who you think is boring.

Personally, I’d like politicians to be honest (rare as), efficient and actually motivated to fix the utter skip fire the UK has become. If that means they have the personality of a cardboard box so be it.
For the record i will likely not be voting labour come election time. .

I was just thinking that. She’s no angel so I’m not sure why the welcoming her with open arms. Labour could quite well take the seat without her.

I assume it is just to keep the short-term momentum going to pressure the governing party - that will be the second MP to cross the aisle in recent weeks.

I’m hoping they will announce that she won’t be running for re-election.

So the concept of a statesman is old fashioned in your opinion? Have to disagree there. Cameron or Corbyn negotiating a trade deal? The left might prefer the unwashed scruffy tramp image but formal political discourse demands (and requires) better.

I thought it was me who did the stereo-types?

I apologise if I offended accountants or fictional cartoon villains. I realise they’re not all the same. Some of my best friends are cartoon bilionaires.

Diplomats negotiate trade deals. They will make recommendations to ministers as to whether they are worth the paper that they are printed on. The PM is ultimately the one that has to sell it to parliament and the population. At least, that is what is supposed to happen. When you have some dickhead signing off on any old thing without reading it, you have Brexit.

With @PeachesEnRegalia ?

Wrong number, @PeachesEnRegalia. I think this call is for you.

You can’t deny that reading it left you with a slight tingling feeling in your special place

Baffling they are welcoming a horrible cunt like her in with open arms.

@RedWhippet hinted at the key dynamic I think. Starmer’s life experiences means he straddles the working class/establishment divide. For some politicians this can be a benefit as they can use it to be relatable to pretty much everyone. But for reasons that aren’t entirely clear, for some politicians it is a liability. And that is the case with Starmer where both sides are skeptical of his true leanings and no matter what they do they are perceived to be just cosplaying and pandering. That means that any sane electoral strategy would have him doing things that would bolster his normal guy credentials. It also means it is a fairly obvious response from the Tories to try to get out ahead of that and position any attempt at that as cynical politics. Even without knowing Kuenssberg, it is difficult to see that piece as anything other than her doing that. Knowing her track record makes it come across even worse, essentially the British version of people on Fox always reminding us that Obama’s middle name is Hussein.
