Behind the Lettuce?

I noticed that the Alliance have beaten the DUP in Lagan Valley. Have they had an MP before?

Is there already a figure for turnout? It looks incredibly low in a lot of the results I’ve seen so far.

I think that was one of the first talking points of the night, but I don’t know if there are official figures yet.

Glad to see the result is as expected, and not a seconds sleep sacrificed watching it.

It looks like the Labour party have sucked up both the unionist and centre-left vote. Aside from the scandals, I think people have noticed that the SNP have their fair share of reactionaries and religious nutters which is rather removed from their cuddle progressive image.

TBH, I didn’t mind my (SNP) MP but I was worried that the seat might go Conservative again. As it was the Tories finished in 4th. Maybe having a golfer as the Labour candidate helped?

Lib Dems retained their seat in my constituency, one of only 4 seats won in Scotland.

Apparently Fabricant had been the MP there for donkey’s years. I once spoke to someone who had him as a local MP and they said that the local people would vote for a dog-eared cabbage patch doll if they stuck a blue rosette on it, and frequently did.

Rees-Mogg losing to a Labour candidate is pretty funny. Finding out that the haunted pencil is younger than me isn’t!

You’ll be all happy to know my constituency, Maidstone & Malling is a Conservative Hold.

I’m glad I got it when I did.

I’ve been looking at seats for family and friends and they are all significantly lower. For example, my brother’s MP (Ed Davey) had around 6,000 less votes than 2019 but a massively increased majority. Turnout was down from 74% to 66% and that is for a fairly high profile MP.

It’s difficult to determine many as the constituency borders have changed so much, so it would be interesting to see the national figure. I suspect that the largest “party” overall will actually be “didn’t vote”.

Good thread here, Russ has written several books on Tory cunts…knows his stuff…
