UK Politics Thread (Part 3)

Over 16s should have been eligible to vote. It’s a fucking mockery that you can pay tax in this country and have zero say in democracy.

You’d have to be wilfully ignorant at this point to argue that people knew what they were voting for.

‘Leave the EU’ was far to broad a concept to base a simple vote on. Lots of people voted leave thinking we’d be staying in the Single Market. Lots of people though we were leaving the UN. Lots of people didn’t know what the EU was, but wanted to have a swipe at the Government. A lot of people thought it would mean we could kick out the Muslims.

I am sure I remember on TIA you sagely telling me leaving the single market was hysterical nonsense.

Very few people can look at what has happened between 2016 and today and honestly and say ‘yep - this is what I voted for’.

I‘d book in for an MRI then.

You’re missing the critical word “SOME”

And that fact that people get more conservative as they get older has zero affect on your stance?

Born
Communism sounds great
OK, not everybody works as hard as others or is as intelligent so socialism is a great idea
Turns out I’m now the one doing the working and thinking and paying for those who don’t
Fuck my life this tax bill is insane
Joins the conservative party
Dies

You’re missing the critical word “SOME”

Quite intentionally my dear Watson.

It’s not even a fact…

Well it should be.

Must have been Kopstar then. It was one of you.

You know what they say. It’s easier to double down on the con, than admit you’ve been conned. Hence loads of leavers saying ‘Yeah. This is fine. This is exactly what I voted for’.

It only works like that if everyone is a selfish prick. As they aren’t, it probably doesn’t.

Driving over the border on the M74 yesterday a thought struck me.
If Jimmy Krankies mob had got their way in 2014, would I have been subjected to a border control check?

So voting for the conservatives makes a person a selfish prick?

Interesting question. I’m guessing probably not because there would have been a similar arrangement to the Northern Irish protocol - assuming that Scotland would have remained in the Single Market, of course.

If you see the modern, UK Conservative as Capitalist in nature, which I do, then by that very definition they have their own interests at heart over everything else. They’ll vote with their wallet and what best benefits them. The sort of people that will own multiple properties by taking on various levels of debt while flipping the bird at those concerned in the housing crisis. The gutting-by-stealth of the NHS and all other public services doesn’t even register as a blip on their radar.

Just show them the money.

I think people who drift to right due the factors you’ve set out are selfish, yeah.

I’ve always believed you don’t vote for what’s best for yourself. You vote for what’s best for society.

Wasn’t that something that was broken in the 80s?

So for reference, you just specifically called me a prick.

Cheers mate.

I didn’t really, though did I.

You do understand language? Maybe that’s an assumption on my part.
