UK Politics Thread (Part 4)

Oops!!..I thought there was a rule about the Union at sea…but in our area…we’ve had 2 or 3 houses where they’ve been asked to remove the Union flag …

Don’t think I mentioned terrorism, yet you jumped on it as if I did.
I mentioned military sabotage, which you chose to ignore

Which area? The only time I have heard of that is when it is combined with a prescribed organisation.

I’m talking about the actions of the Government, as referenced in the article you posted.

Where do you live? Belfast?

Nah…sunny Doncaster…apparently the neighbours found it ‘offensive’…what days we live in eh!

It is military sabotage of strategic state assets and actually extremely serious. I do not think they thought this through.
You can excuse them by claiming “of it’s only red paint”, but it does not take away the fact that they willfully broke into a military base (with too little security, but that is a monitary issue) and endangered strategic assets (those airlifters are strategic assets absolutely crucial to the UK). This is very serious and the video is absolutely shocking. Of course they should be charged with something more severe than trepass and damage for deterrence reasons. You cannot have civilians personally decide if they are allowed to sabotage state assets or not obviously.

I would be very unhappy if these activists were not charged with actual jail time of some lenght, as you too point to them having probably factored fines in (and it is absolutely imperrative that they don’t get away with private individuals paying their fines like we have seen in other cases). This is far more serious than breaking someone jaw in a pub fight. If they do not get a considerable sentence, then this could happen again and will.

I honestly think he doesn’t understand the severity of this. If you normalise this and let them off the hook with just a slap and fines (which could be payed by wealthy sympathisers, which these people usually always have), then there is no real roof to what can happen next. Normalising this is obscene and truly dangerous.

There simply must be a prison sentence. It is the only possible deterrent.

I only saw the tv report…but it looked like the paint was sprayed into the engine…I’m no engineer…but ithat engine must be unusable, so that has to be replaced…but also that’s one of our military planes out of action, till repaired…How much will that cost.

Far worse than the cost, is that it will be out of action for days and therefore the readiness of the RAF will suffer. If something actually serious and “unthinkable” happened, that would have grave consequences; which is why this is so serious and why a serious prison sentence is an absolute must.
Because fines and damages is no deterrent at all to these people, who will likely have wealthy backers who will pay that for them.

Sorry but that’s absolute bollocks. There’s one flying on every lamp post here at this time of year

You may think it’s bollocks but quite a few councils have guidelines regarding the Union flag…you have to check with them to see if it offends anyone…

Sure you don’t need to fly flags when you can just paint the kerbs instead.

Any evidence of this?

You haven’t got the hang of this internet malarkey have you?

You post an actual experience from where you live, then someone who’s probably never been there refutes it as bollocks because there are flags down their way.

That’s how it works, now stop talking bollocks

North Kesteven and Norfolk…

30 second verification shows there’s no restrictions on flying the union flag in those council areas, or any others in UK

Flag regulations are here:

You don’t need permission to fly a Union Jack. There may be some restrictions on any flag that are related to health and safety, e.g. obscuring a road sign.
