in other breaking news, the sun will rise today…
What matters when paying tax is the source of the funds. Estate agents are expected to verify this.
Farage’s partner bought the house for 900k with cash.
If Farage was the source of that cash, then that is tax evasion and potentially a criminal matter.
Talking about australian law here…but…
…if farage gifted his partner 900k of funds he had in a cash account, after hed paid tax on it, and done the required paperwork, then any movement of that money there after is her tax burden not his.
again, its not tax evasion if hes already paid tax on it.
that said, i have no idea of the specifics of this case or no interest in looking into it…if Farage is dirty, then i wont be shocked.
its just that a 900k gift is not immediately a tax fraud if the correct process has been followed
I was wondering if there’s an ethics issue here too? It’s very fortunate that Farage’s partner decided that she wanted to buy a house in Clacton.
Don’t think I’ll ever have that problem, but if someone turned up with 900k in cash I definitely wouldn’t suspect anything fishy
Kemi talking about Labour ‘shuffling the deck chairs.’
Did lol.
I’m pretty sure that here in the UK it doesn’t work like that. I’m no expert so happy to be corrected.
The issue here is whether he contributed funds to the purchase (which seems likely) and whether he has a beneficial interest (which he certainly does). That would carry a tax liability.
Mandelson sacked (again)
We may well be an ungovernable group of countries but there’s also an argument to say that we’re struggling to find a decent government.
That’s now two forced ‘resignations’ and a sacking from a Labour govt. When will they ever learn…?
It certainly seems that way. Last year, there was a great appetite to be rid of those venal and corrupt Tory bastards, and probably a flicker of hope that things may now improve.
Except it just appears to be more of the same, plus the main parties now want to out-Farage Farage.
It’s truly fucking depressing.
I think Starmer only appointed Mandelson to the ambassadors role because he had contacts in common with Trump…
Sacking him now does seem to align with Alastair Campbell’s mantra that the best way of dealing with a scandal is to work out where it is going to end, and get there as fast as possible.
A generous interpretation!
Power and money corrupt. They always do.
We already have a decent government.
When is an election so we can vote them in?
Mandelson has always been a Tory. No idea what he was doing in the Labour Party.
Had to laugh at the mail story, this part is nuts.
Tory MP Neil O’Brien, who tabled an urgent question in the Commons, said of the impending state visit: ‘This is huge turmoil ahead of it and I cannot believe that the Government put our monarch in this terrible position.’
They are worried that this is an awkward position for the king despite his brother being a pedo and Epsteins mate…on a state visit for yet another Epstein mate …fucking world no longer makes sense
Hmm, they’ve had quite an error strewn start much of which could have been avoided with being a bit smarter.
And as a result the pressure is far higher on them than it should be.
The two are somewhat linked.
To some degree yes, but for example some of their policy choices and messaging has been easy to attack, the choice of Mandelson was always questionable, Rayner’s tax mistake was dumb and so on.
I appreciate they have an incredibly difficult job and absolutely everything is against them but some of their problems could have been done far better than they were. It just makes them look stupid sometimes.
