Isn’t this a party decision? Burnham could theoretically run for it as an independent?
I do suppose if those elections went ahead anyway just before restructuring of local government you wouldn’t call it a waste of money?
Agreed.

Agreed.
Go on to then. When did this happen.
You what?
It depends upon what side of the fence you sit on. You suggest people are frothing at the mouth for a RW party to come in and save the day, are they?
You questioned what is the basis of the RW policies and their attraction. I have tried numerous times to highlight the ignorance of this kind of statement. The “Left” label anything they don’t agree with as “RW”. State the population has been brainwashed by RW Media.
Facts are Facts, the RW parties are becoming increasingly popular across Europe, how long will it take the Left to accept that their policies are not popular with the majority?
Regarding the UK, even the Labour Party members are wanting a change of leadership. I suppose their expectations were that the World was going to change in 3-5 years
.
It a massive, and I think mistaken, assumption that the rise of the far right is anything to with ‘policy’.
The right are on the rise because traditional neo-liberal politics has failed people - it’s destroyed public services, raised bills, suppressed wages and funnelled more money into the hands of fewer already wealthy people. The far right takes that anger and projects it onto a scapegoat, and suffering people find that massively appealing.
It really is no different to the rise of the far right across Europe in the thirties. It’s eerily familiar.
But Starmer was generally liked and trusted and still is to a certain degree.
This could be seen as potentially the 2nd challenge to his Leadership, Starmer obviously believes in himself and I respect that.
He has come into office at a very incredible tough time, in a world which is becoming increasingly divided.
I hate to be frank but in my opinion Labour won’t win the next election on their own accord. It will be down to votes being shared between the other Parties. I am unsure if changing leadership will help, the damage has already been done.
How soon can an election be called?
You are probably right, after all Labour got voted in with little to no policy and like wise Reform may get voted in, again with little to no policy. Just promise of change, which sounds familiar.
It is completely different to the Far Right of the 30’s and you could argue that the left are equally active in using the suffering of the people to support their cause. Isn’t that a play every shadow government use?
The right are on the rise because the left continue to portray their values as being correct and refuse to dilute their stance. You referenced Neo-Liberal politics failing people, but then criticise people for voting Leave at the Brexit Referendum.
Could it be that the rise in people being “Judged” as RW being a result of LW becoming more insular?
Even for someone who loves to see the comedy of the 2 traditional parties , as a foreigner, I shudder to even think of a party like Reform in power of any country. It’s one thing to want strict and enforced legal immigration but another thing to be anti immigration. The things that their leader say are scary at times.
Facts are facts as you say, in that I agree they are becoming popular.
Apologies if I missed this elsewhere, congratulations on the new arrival!
Their candidate in the upcoming election thinks that people with brown skin aren’t really British. A view he has stubbornly refused to retract.

How is it different? You should do some research on what the Nazi party looked like in the thirties in Germany. They swept to power on a wave of populism, promising to bring back the countries pride after convincing poor, broken people that Jews were the enemy.
Swap Germany for Britain, The treaty of Versailles for Neoliberal economics, and Jews for Muslims, and there you have it.
Putting the obvious racism aside, voting leave may have been on some level a reaction to neo liberal politics, in that in that it was a reflex kick out at the political mainstream, but I think that analysis is hard to maintain when the same fuckers who have been sucking money out of the country through neo liberal economics are the same ones who’ve profited from Brexit.
It’s time everyone acknowledged what a colossal failure Brexit has been. Christ, it even hasn’t worked out for the racists, given it created the small boats issue and increased immigration.
Some interesting numbers here, particularly the fact that retail represents such a small part of the economy. I would not have guessed that.
Sat on the train just reflecting on the above…Mrs SBYM is on a few local forums, and every time a new shop opens up on one of the high streets near us, the bitter, old pile-on brigade go into a frenzy.
Fuck them and their nostalgia.
I always assumed the City of London was god and that the high street was more of a “trickle down” sign of the good times show piece.
Just for clarity.
I am opposed to the arrival of the ‘small boats’ and also think immigration is too high.
Does that automatically make me a racist in your opinion or do you think it is possible to hold those views without being a racist? Genuine question.
No. That wasn’t really what I was getting at and I made no such claim. I am also opposed to people trying to get across the channel in dinghies.
My point is that Brexit has been such a colossal failure, that even the people (there were plenty of them) who would have happily burned down the whole fucking country and made themselves much worse off as long as it meant less immigration - for shorthand lets call them ‘racists’ - didn’t get what they wanted.
Immigration has increased and the small boats crisis was created as a direct consequence of leaving the European Union.
By the way, a while ago I asked if you might be make to give an example of
Still waiting for a reply on that one. Whenever you’re ready.
I saw it on You-tube. Looked legit. A copper arresting a bloke in his own home in the middle of the night and carting him off to the station. Told him they call at that time to save them the embarrassment of being seen by the neighbours, although the cynical amongst us might think there’s a different reason.
If you go on You-tube you might find it. I haven’t got the time or the inclination to do it for you.
And just to add, I have no idea whatsoever the subject the bloke had posted about, or where he’d posted it.
I am always on the position that immigration needs to be legal and anyone that says otherwise is not worth my time. However I am also appalled by the other extreme like the Reform guy saying that immigration should be totally eliminated because only whites or only certain races are British.
And to me that is the problem. That there is a big section of people who either believes that compassion trumps over law in immigration (I do believe compassion should be a huge part of society but never at the expense of laws. They are not perfect but without them, more chaos and anarchy will probably be present). Then other extreme big section who spouts trash like racial bias. This world is so globalised that the better we welcome migrants and integrate them into the society, the better we all thrive. Closing a society off only because of race is abhorrent.
Actually the middle sensible ground is that migration is welcomed and should be controlled under the rule of laws and importantly ensuring that migrants can thrive and integrate well into the society they move to.
