UK Politics Thread (Part 4)

They’re still atound pushing and believing all sorts of conspiracies, new and old. They’ve just dug themselves on deeper.

I was referring to the fucking dopes who “ate out to help out”

Shit, I didn’t even know the detail of this. The fact that Williamson had the gall to stay firm in his decision until the private school children with bumped-up grades had secured their university positions then walked back his decision meaning the bumped-down state students had to defer to the following year… That is Absolutely. Appalling. That political party has pure evil running through it.

Yes, it was stupid. Obviously.

But the Government - any government - needs to start from a position that people are idiots. You don’t incentivise people to indulge their own idiocy.

Do you think if Churchill had a ‘lights on to help out’ policy during the blitz, there wouldn’t have been idiots taking him up on it?

If the mentality of todays society is anything to go by, they’d have installed halogen lamps, then blamed Churchill

It’s not about civil servants/ public sector staff being lazy but a belief that inefficiencies have crept into the system under the previous government - either process wise or policy wise that can be solved, freeing up resources. Or new technologies adopted.

For example, @RedWhippet has cited the costs of agency staff nurses as an example of this.

Heres an example of inefficiency, and downright money wasting.
6 months ago in my neighbourhood, a contractor dug up the pavements to install fibre for BT.
Now, the pavements are being dug up for Virgin Media.
Both funded/subsidised by government.

I’m pretty sure it is difficult for LAs to stop VM digging up the road, or controlling when they dig. The fuckers usually wait until a road has been resealed to start their work. Not to mention their tendency to try and take shortcuts - I’ve had plenty of pissed off colleagues showing me pics of VM trying to get away with filling in with bitmac on an old-school London cobblestone road.

Isn’t VM a private entity, regardless of whether they are subsidised?

dunno,

but the point is that with very minor effort these are exactly the type of works local (in Australia, im not aware of who runs what in UK) government should easily be able to co-ordinate…

infrastructure in older estates is obviously very very tricky to get right, compared to newer estates, but ultimately its hardly impossible

Which party is in power, exactly?

You’ll be glad to know this is being looked into:

Divide and rule? The right wing would be the experts on that: it’s their modus operandi.
