Vodka comes from Poland, so, it is something they stole. Cossack dancing is Ukrainian, so again, something the Russians stole.
Ukrainians will claim that even Russia itself is Ukrainian (via the Kievian Rus that they claim as Ukrainian)
Burnham will give vodka to football fans in the stadium. It will get votes right?
What about the dodgy hats? ![]()
Thanks for educating me, I am now going to see if Chat GPT can find something they havenât stolen.
Thoughts on the current Portadown standoff?
It seems to me that three decades without this particular march has not done the Orange Order any irreparable harm, (ie. it still exists), which leads me to believe that marching via another route, or not at all, ainât going to kill them off.
Traditions come and go. They should revisit this one.
I wish someone would tell them to grow the fuck up.
That, too.
why is there still marches going on to celebrate winning a battle that was fought on the 12th July 1690?
Incidentally, there is an Orange March each year in my home town in the north of Scotland which get a bigger turnout than the Battle of Culloden Memorial Service held each year!
Ritual is important.
I completely understand why these things matter to people. However, rituals are not fixed. They change all the fucking time.
When youâve managed to go on without said ritual for decades, and when resurrecting it threatens to tear your community apart (again)âŚcanât help but think this is an opportune moment for some self-reflection.
To think that the entire peace process and power-sharing government is once again in jeopardy after all these years because these dickheads want to march once again through a Catholic area just to rub their noses in it makes me despair. Has so very little really changed these past 30yrs ?
the marches should be held around the 12th July every year,
and thats it done till the next year
On a similarly ridiculous note, there is a bigger deal made of St Patricks Day than St Andrews Day, in St Andrews ![]()
Thatâs because St Patrickâs day is the moneymakerđ
St Patrick: The patron saint of Guinness.
Prisoners early release this Thursday trending on the news channels.
Less serious offenders being released after serving 1/3 of their sentences, but these include domestic abusers.
More serious offenders will have to stay in prison until theyâve served a whopping 50% of their sentence.
Getting into a scenario in this country where the prospect of prison time isnât actually a deterrent.
How about telling them at sentencing that the sentence theyâre being given is the time theyâll serve?
Not 50%, not 40%, not 30%!!
Until the new prison places come onto line then the only options at the moment are to either release early or not to put people inside in the first place. As much as people are upset over the first point, I think they would be more upset at the second (although its often two sets of people we would hear from).
I suppose it depends on the terms of license. I would assume that domestic abusers would be prohibited from going anywhere near their victims.
And thatâs the problem right there.
The argument that such and such a government didnât build enough prisons is flawed, and distracts from the real problem.
Make their lives a fucking misery and they wont be so keen on going back, or going in in the first place.
Harsher sentences, no fucking kettles and tvâs in their cells, pot noodle for tea and no early release.
âŚim sure the victims all feel a lot safer knowing thatâŚ
Or, you know, just pay attention to all the studies on reducing crime instead of just going by vibes?
