I don’t get your point tbh. I’m putting it in the context of an emergency service called to help people in distress, the response is the same regardless of who the people are or how you would label them.

If you dont like them been referred to as migrants, whilst been helped by the emergency services
Go take it up with every news agency out there who refers to them as migrants no matter the context

Mmm, I find that Jake Sullivan is a man I would love to drink a beer with and discuss my favorite RPG game as well as actual politics. In another world we might have been friends. I love his podcasts.
But man, I hated him while he was in an actual position to do something (probably mentioned only a hundred times or so somehwere in the Russo-Ukrainian War thread) in the Biden admin. But at least he was consistent and we all miss that, I am sure.
The error lays in not having raised a palisade and a ditch around said camps, to “show” the public that it is a temporary internment camp, and not a Vaccation Resort 
I joke obviously, but it’s really what it is all about. Perception and running with information from bad sources that refuse to nuance information to make it “logical” (not in their interests, is it?)

It’s genuinely weird. Even when the UK is doing everything they seem want on immigration, it’s still framed in absurdly negative terms so they can keep moaning.
The UK getting intelligence that a boat with 120 people on it is en route to UK and moving to intercept it becomes facilitating a handover.
Intercepting them at sea and escorting them to a prearranged point becomes running a migrant taxi service.
Rapidly erecting a temporary processing facility, and then using coaches to transport them directly to a secure location becomes a five star welcome
It should be clear at this point that running anti migrant websites and action groups is a cottage industry. There is never going to be a point where we have a response to immigration that is satisfactory. The outrage is the point. That’s where the coin is.
Where that’s led us is to a point where we can’t even agree that not letting people die at sea is at least a basic point of consensus.

Many years ago I was onboard a semi submersible drilling rig being towed from Haugesund to the Bay of Biscay.
It took about 8 days.
Whilst moving through the English Channel, I was amazed and the sheer volume of traffic we encountered.
Many of the vessels completely dwarfed our rig.

In related news the bellend who organised the Portsmouth black mask ‘protest’ has been demonstrating at the offices of the Daily Mail with his goons demanding they buy his mum a new house in the next 48 hours, because they doorstepped her rather than him, as the result of him using her address to register his business.

That was my reason for challenging the kicking the can down the road. As it not being a solely UK problem. The following statement:

I do not mean to pick on France but my understanding is that their borrowing is also high, higher as a percentage of GDP than the UK’s. But as you highlighted on a lower interest rate - have i understood that correctly? And if so how does that translate to FR position?
I think that is a relatively fair assessment. As a Leave voter, my biggest gripe is not that the cost scenario is worse than anticipated. I didn’t expect a smooth transition with the EU or instant results economically, this was before you factor in Covid/Wars/Truss, etc.
It is the fact both sides of the argument blame each other for where we are at, when Infact both sides are guilty.
Society is strange, sometimes the desire for a person to believe they have been wronged or even to prove their point is right, almost embrace the Countries plight even if it affects them.
The big picture people need to look at, is that despite the bullshit of both sides, the lies, the scare mongering, the stereotyping of why people voted the way they did is that we voted to Leave.
Why, when we ask why there was such a demand for a referendum do the remain supporters point the finger at the media, racists and old people?
Why, despite the EU being this pinnacle of free trade and enterprise did so many people want to enter the unknown?

I actual donate monthly to the RNLI, they do a great job in tough conditions.
I agree with you in that no one should be left to die at Sea and that the RNLI are only doing the morale thing. The world really is wrong when these important services are expected to cherry pick those who they attend to.
I think one of the issues with this crossing is that this was already after 480 people had arrived on the beach earlier that day. I also believe they had been turned away from two other landing sites.

I think you raise a good point.
Could it be that by dumping asylum seekers into a poor area that is already disillusioned with the Government and feels let down, see this as a further slap in the face as if the AS are given more attention?
