Wouldn’t it be hilarious if we now sold the Geordies Gakpo for the same money they got for Gordon?
Yeah, I think this was my main takeaway as well, I wonder if it’s been done intentionally so that we don’t have someone blocking Rio’s progress, as you’d expect him and Munoz to share minutes more than he would with someone like Barcola ahead of him, for example.
And that’s fine with me.
He was someone being spoken about as a good signing to offer depth across the front three on i think one of the Anfield Wrap shows about two or three weeks ago when they were discussing what work the squad would need doing under Iraola.

He reminds me of Jota, too—that unpolished, straight-to-the-goal style.
Quite possible, although given what has been said about Andoni’s rotation of wingers in game i would be more inclined to think that this is more about cost - as the potential fee for Diomande looks to be much higher than was being talked about a few months ago and there seems to be a concensus we need to recruit to cover about 5 positions.
One thing I am already loving about this lad is his injury record.
As in, he doesn’t have one:
More of that, please!
Neither did Frimpong. Let’s not count our chickens.
The description of him being able to cover across the front does as well. With Hugo out for a chunk of the season that could be very useful.
Just discovered this. Never heard about him. Is he good?
(Starts reading the thread)
I’d still rather sign a player with a good injury record (or a great one in this case) than one with a poor injury record. That doesn’t seem that much of a hot take?
Any player can get injured, but one of the above is more likely to happen than the other…

I’ll just leave this here, just in case—because knowing you guys, someone here is bound to speculate about it anyway.

That’s surely just the usual nonsense from Madrid. Fabrizio literally said “With Real Madrid not activating the buy-back clause”.
My biggest worry for this summer was that we’re planning to sign only one winger.
With Muñoz in and we’re looking to sign another - we might actually have a squad able to win something next season.
Don’t think it’s going to be Diomande. Barcola more likely but I’ll take another Muñoz type of signing.
Seems like a signing with significant upside that will, at the very least, add depth to a problem area. It’s a welcome surprise, although I am not sure about how well Ngumoha is going to take it.
It’s also worth pointing out that out of the potential trio of him, Diomande and Ngumoha, Munoz will be the eldest at 22.

Edit
According to Joyce, there was apparently a personal appeal to the player from Iraola.
I see him more as one in for Chiesa.
Suspect Gakpo stays, and Iraola works with him in the middle whilst we wait for Ekitike. Gakpo had a bad season, but most of them did, and he knows how to smash the ball into the net. Played correctly, he’s dangerous.
The price point of Munoz suits, and defenitly leaves the Diomande one open.
Not sold on Barcola, who would have cost a fk load more than Munoz, and likely make the Diomande one harder in terms of spending.
I think Muñoz played 2 games up front and 2 behind a striker. Don’t think the plan is to use him as a CF here.
