Virgil’s latest comments dont sound great. He said he is putting off all talk about the future until after the season. Maybe that isnt to be taken literally, but it does sound like things are at an impasse.

I think actually this is positive for us especially if he means he will just focus on getting through the season. He will have plenty of offers and time to look through what’s on the table for him. It will be naive for us to think that we are the only ones putting a contract on the table, many other clubs would have contacted the agent long time ago so essentially he tells everyone don’t disrupt my season, let’s talk end of season, no Jan no now. And I am sure when season ends depending how it goes, VVD will surely give us first priority and only signs for others if we could not offer him what he wants whether contract or challenge etc …

I was also taken back by how insistent he was at his role being so simple. This is the guy who the english press insisted was the English Beckenbauer, the guy who could improve his defending but was so valuable because he was like an extra midfielder on the ball, but here he is describing himself as only being interested in doing his job meaning getting rid of the ball as quickly as possible and letting other players do the playing.
Think Rio was a cracking defender. But Virgil is simply miles above. It’s not even a contest.

Having qualified I reckon it’s probably not serious and the way it’s worded doesn’t seem to be. Assessed is usually used on fitness rather than injury. Hope so anyhow. The next fortnight is a tough one though saying that we have a bit of breathing room for Madrid.

Suspect its purely managing minutes. Hes played every game during the international breaks this season, and the Netherlands next game is a dead rubber.
Sounds like theres a decent relationship between the club and Netherlands FA.
