Looks like the oil market has figured out that Trump cannot do the deal that he was offering Iran. Airstrikes during the ceasefire are likely to set back negotiations significantly, and Brent is nosing back up over $100.
Trump is pretty clearly desperate to produce something that can garnish an accord enough to claim success, hence squeezing the Arab countries to recognize Israel. But I suspect countries that were looking for diplomatic cover to do so just six months ago are no longer that interested, at least not right now. US influence is at a real ebb, and Israel is not seen as a reliable counterparty even by the UAE that signed it in the first place.

The latest US bombing is crazy useless stuff. It’s to show they know where the Iranians have their missiles covering the Ormuz. Yet the US know where they are and Iran know that they know where they are. So no additional pressure is applied. End result even less trust than the no trust of before and another step away from a lasting solution.
This American regime is useless. Just a bunch of desperate …

Here in full because it bears scrutinising to accept that it’s actually real is the proposition that Trump made on a call to Arab leaders , a suggestion that was met with stunned silence. Can’t think why.

Of all the ways to ensure that those countries would not sign, framing it as mandatory because he said so is probably the most efficient.

And simultaneously … and at a minimum … it’s the very least they could do.
As I don’t know the mood in the US, is Trump really looking for an exit or is he just playing the oil market?
I guess both are feasible but Iran aren’t playing that game

I think he is desperately looking for an exit. This was supposed to be Venezuela 2.0, and instead he has cranked US inflation back up to the levels last seen as Biden deflated covid spending. Worse, it has hit the MAGA consumption bundle harder - gas pump prices are at the peak they hit in 2022. That has put approval ratings for Republicans badly downward in an election year, with no end in sight and lots of people saying it will take at least 6 months from the opening of the Straits for the oil market to reorder itself.
He simply cannot be seen to have done all that for nothing, or a worse deal than the one he tore up.
