War in Iran : Trump's latest misadventure

Understood. I’m not fully up to speed on the US pump prices and so on. It’s hilarious that he hasn’t got and exit without looking like a complete loss, but massively frustrating that he or others are profiting from it at the same time.

President Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, of Saudi Arabia,

I think even the Gulf elites have realized that any coziness with Israel with Netanyahu (and gang) at the helm will be like knowingly stepping into a sinkhole.

Trump appears to have forgotten today that he posted the same rambling message, word for word, about his war in Iran 1 week ago.

An excellent piece here that examines the folly of Operation Epic Fuck Up.

So we have until sometime in July before every country’s oil reserves are toast, apart from China who blocked sales from their reserve early in the conflict.

Predicted to be a 7 million barrel a day shortfall globally. Oil prices to hit over $150 / barrel and there’s naff all Trump can do about it. No massaging or manipulation possible at that point.

we’ll just have to buy oil from America then, as Donald already suggested…

A big chunk of that shortfall will be in the US, particularly diesel.

We might be already. There won’t be any left by mid July.

This came from the chief execs of Chevron and AN Other oil firm in the last couple of days.

Iran appears to have walked away from the peace discussions, over Israeli bombing in Lebanon. US had sent back some changes that Trump was demanding, likely in order to posture as the supreme negotiator, but the reporting was casting these as comparatively minor. Now the US finds itself on the cusp of attacking again in order to allow Israel to continue bombing another country. They have so thoroughly painted themselves into a corner

So Bibi gets his endless war and Trump allows himself to be led by the nose , like the fucking ass that he is. When does the US finally learn that the only thing Israel is interested in is Israel’s interests ? The whole world could burn for all that they care.

Plan 9 From Outer Space is still going strong and no one should be surprised that Trump chooses the worst option. The absolute worst.

Why is this worse than the war continuing weeks ago ? Well, now much time has passed, restarting the bombing campaign against Iran carries even a higher cost. It’s honestly a bit funny to me, in a tragicomic way but absolutely no surprise. I wrote weeks ago that Iran’s terms were impossible, it’s not as if this is an illogical development (other than the US choosing the very worst choice once again, even worse than continuing the war a month ago, as cost is much higher now). US shocked me by accepting first absolute shit terms (but I should have learned by now that Trump would be stupid enough to try to sell such a sham agreement), but as I predicted, political backclash made it impossible in the end.

The global economic backclash is going to be interesting in a Chinese way. Sincerly, fuck you Israel, United States, Iran and Hezbollah. Fuck you all and damn you all.

It’s like a global economical disaster, just played out by absolutely idiotic and irresponsible children on all sides.

As for Hezbollah, I hope they are happy now that the IDF has crossed the Litani River and occupied Beufort. Congratulations, you absolute swines for provoking the destruction of your own country through their epic betrayal.

This is an absolute tragedy on an epic scale for Lebanon and it will get worse.

Idiot conflict.

Anyway, the US has lost the war by now. It’s much too late now in reality to restart a proper campaign, which Iran exploits as usual. However, predictably, it’s not so easy to end even a losing war, is it Trump ? Who could have known. No one warned them :expressionless_face:

Ironically, and to the surprise of few, Trump has given Israel (reportedly) carte blanchè in expanding the war in Lebanon almost as much as they would like, in tandem with negotiations with Iran (to press Iran obiously).

Shocking that this could backfire, given the weak strenght of the position of the US and the (still lacking) not to be found truly credible threat to the Islamic Republic.

How it is possible to misread Iran so much, to lack so much knowledge and just go with wibes, only the birds knows.

Meanwhile, Lebanese will suffer and have their country destroyed in a literal proxy war.

I suppose Cuba may be the only ones who is happy about this, as they likely pray and hope that this will get so fucking bad for Trump that he does not do the promised “return swing” and attacks Cuba on the way home.

Apparently the changes that Trump wanted made to the MOU were nothing too consequential ( despite the usual tough talk) and were expected to be accommodated , before Bibi had to put his foot in it again. Now they are scrambling again to find a form of words that will give Trump some political cover. Rubio was laughably insisting yesterday in his appearance before Congress that everything was going swimmingly and we were very close to an agreement (yet again). Of course none of this even addresses the real sticking points between the two sides and the best that Trump can hope for is a prolonged extension to the charade that will get him past the mid-terms.

He had a few choice ones for Bibi by all accounts:
