What the dumb shit fails to recognise is that he can bomb Iran all he wants , but it just doesn’t matter for Iran. For an existential war to the IRGC , it doesn’t matter.
I might have this wrong… but in the last ceasefire agreement, didn’t the US offer to pay for all the damage they caused by the initial bombing… Makes me think it suits the leaders of Iran to lose people and get bombed to fuck so they can renegotiate in the next ceasefire agreement for more funds to repair the damaged (decrepit) infrastructure…

A couple of days ago Drumph was making a virtue of protecting “mariners”.
Today the US is claiming firing missiles down the “smokestack”,in the real world,funnel,of a vessel.
In some circumstances that could have rapidly sunk the vessel,so much for protecting seafarers.
The amount of utter BS emanating from the US is rapidly becoming a torrent.

I suspect that during Trump’s first term, nuclear secrets were sold to the Saudis. It’s probably part of the reason why Trump criminally exited the White House with all sorts of documents, even though they were supposed to be government records and not his personal possessions.
Given the amount of money the Saudis have, I would imagine they can get what they want from a variety of sources, and America has won the ‘race’ to partner with them (I’m sure there will be lots of money for Trump, and those in his orbit).
I’m not sure that having nuclear weapons in the region is a good idea, at all, but I can’t look beyond Israel as the prime mover there. They have an official policy of ambiguity and will not confirm it one way or the other, but it is an open secret that they have 90+ nuclear warheads, perhaps even 2-3 times that amount, with the fissile material to make more.
It’s a big reason why they have thrown their weight around for decades now.
What history shows us is that possessing nuclear weapons needs balance on the other side, to maintain relative peace. Hence Iran’s desire to have nukes, to balance against Israel, and now Saudi’s desire to have nukes, to balance against Iran.
The days of strict non-proliferation seem like they might be consigned to the history books, and the world is a much more dangerous place for it.
I can’t imagine someone being willing to go ‘big’ with a nuclear weapon, given the possibility of mutually assured destruction, but I can increasingly see a world emerging where someone will be willing to deploy a smaller scale tactical nuke, and at that point, who knows where it might lead. The scale would be magnitudes greater than conventional weapons, and it would surely raise a tit-for-tat response. I’m not sure if war gaming theory has been able to thoroughly map this out, as the consequences seem so unpredictable.

China has openly challenged Donald Trump’s version of the Strait of Hormuz crisis.
Trump reportedly demanded two billion dollars a day to “reopen” the vital shipping route, presenting the situation as a costly international emergency requiring American intervention.
But China’s response cut directly through that narrative.
“The Strait was already open before the war,” the Chinese foreign minister said. “The root of this crisis lies in your illegal actions against Iran. You created a global emergency out of nothing.”
That statement raises an unavoidable question: how can Washington demand payment to solve a crisis that its own policies may have helped create?
A trade route was functioning. Military escalation followed. Global shipping became threatened. Oil markets were shaken. And now the countries suffering the consequences are apparently expected to pay for the solution.
China’s message was blunt: stop treating the consequences of escalation as a business opportunity.
This is no longer just a dispute over the Strait of Hormuz. It is a battle over who controls the global narrative—and who is ultimately held responsible when political aggression creates economic chaos for the entire world.

Door to door canvassers are fun. Just had one come to door from Susan Collins’ campaign. She asked if I’ll be voting for Collins and I said “I’m not sure which Democrat is running so I haven’t decided” (I’m still far too politely British to say “fuck no” outloud).
Then she asked what my biggest issues are to which I said the economy and, as someone who was recently fighting the war in Iran, ending the war.
She said “Ok I’m just going to put undecided, thank you!” and left

At this stage, they are gathering data for GOTV. The problem with ‘Undecided’ is that they are going to check back to see if you have moved closer to them.

Pretty sure the door knocker was not a Mainer and by the speed of her leaving she clearly had no interest in convincing me that Collins is worth voting for - just paid for labor brought in to gather data and push a leaflet.
Yes, but she probably had a tablet or a paper list. If you answered Collins, you would be put on the GOTV list. If you answered Democrat, they would key you as anti- and probably leave you alone. With Undecided, she might have nudged you down, or left you dead neutral - or if you mentioned military service, nudged you one box towards GOP.
In about two months or so, someone at the campaign will run a report on that database and you will go on a follow-up list.
