If so, I suspect there will be more bodies coming home, and then a huge decision on whether to find a way to pull out, or - against everyone’s wishes, including Trump’s own base - mobilize many more troops and engage on the ground in a bigger way.

I feel like these two incidents are not unrelated, and this is possibly the Republican tactics moving forward. Challenge everyone who isn’t an outward Republican’s right to vote, some people won’t bother with presenting their info and you reduce Democrat vote totals slightly.

The deal between Iran and Oman is a temporary arrangement , presumably a stop gap until the MOU is resurrected. How we don’t end up back at square one though is a mystery to me. I don’t see how Trump can accept Iran controlling the Strait and I don’t see how Iran will ever relinquish that leverage now.
I think more and more people are getting sick of Trump, and his base is fracturing and diminishing. Not to irrelevance, as unfortunately in America there will always be those who would support Trump, but my sense is that some people who were former supporters are getting sick of him. He has got very little chance of winning any election that is even remotely free and fair.
In order to hang on to power the dirty stuff will have to ratchet up more and more. My fear is he will continue to do what he wants, and enforcement will be the issue. Surrounded by a well paid ICE-army of goons, enforcing a decision against Trump will need an awful lot of political will, and, unfortunately, it may need the firepower to back it up, too.
