Yeah suits Netanyahu, Putin too. But I’d not be surprised if he’s also been pushed from behind either. This is normal service for Republican presidents over the majority of my lifetime.
There is an old documentary from the end of the Bush era called No End in Sight about the failures of the Bush admin in their “what next” planning for Iraq. They had great access with a range of top level “on the ground” people who really let rip. These are the sort of people close enough to the ground to know what was needed but not high enough in the org chart to have their voice heard by Bush cronies who were so ideological certain they were right that they didnt need input from experts. Weirdly I watched it again about 2 weeks ago…I guess maybe somewhat in preparation for this.
There is one particularly prescient clip where they show footage of an Iraqi man being interviewed on the street saying he’s glad Saddam is gone but what America has left them with is worse. I think of that poor fucking guy every time I see a western talking head say something like “it’s good the Ayatollah has gone”…

Israel was going to bomb them and we expected to be bombed in retaliation, and so rather than stopping Israel we went ahead and bombed Iran instead in revenge for the retaliatory bombing they hadnt yet done

Two reasons I can think of:
i) The Iranian Air Force may seem themselves approaching a ‘use them or lose them’ stage, where the aircraft will be destroyed on the ground. Callous use of aircrew, to be sure.
ii) With all of the drones and missiles flying around, and air defence focused on that, there may be targets of opportunity on the Iranian side of the interception line - particularly ships caught in transit. The mission may have been to hit a target like an oil tanker, then turn and run back to Iran.

This is a round-up of the damage done to American bases in the region.
