Welcome to Liverpool Hugo Ekitike

" 🚨 š—œš—”š—™š—¢: What Liverpool are buying is enormous potential. A player that can absolutely perform to the highest standards at the moment, but who, according to a conversation I had with Frankfurt just before they agreed to a sale, they still believe he’s kind of about 60% of his potential.

Ekitike’s goal tally was not vast last season, but Liverpool did not regard that as a reason to be deterred. He performed well in other metrics, and LFC expect his goal return to increase over time."

Liverpool’s analysts felt that, relative to other centre-forwards, only Haaland & Mbappe have shown similar potential to Ekitike at a comparable age.

Welcome, Hugo.

I am also, hated that shirt due to the ugly collar, only good thing about it is that it is a Premier League Champions shirt.

Welcome Boss, I have faith in you being a great player for us YNWA

Dunno anything about that, but having watched him a bit over the last 24 hours, he remembers me of Zidane. The way he moves over the pitch, the technical ease and the tricks, the vision in order to bring in his team-mates…

Not to say that he’ll necessarily turn out like Zidane, but I can see some similarities.

Potential to be a pretty good, well rounded striker, but no hiding from the fact that there are a few question marks…

From what I know and I’ve seen from him, he’s technically of pretty high level, very good in link up play. Different players, but of all of our central options since Firmino, Ekitike might be the first since Bobby who will offer that aspect of moving, receiving, combining with others with accuracy, variety.

A lack of killer instinct took him another direction, last season was basically his first serious season in terms of numbers. That is something that can be improved somewhat.

I like the combination of his height, but not being heavy, having a quality touch. Able to combine in very tight spaces outside and inside the box. Could make him awkward to defend against. Especially since he also seems to have the pace to go in behind. Strength might be one of the questions, but also careful not to become heavy. Need to find the right balance.

Then of course, the pure aspect of coming to this successful Liverpool side, to make it even better, with the expectation of being the first striker in a team that aspires to win leagues, CL’s and the rest. He’s had some smaller clubs so far, a stint at PSG and still no France caps. Unproven at a few levels.

We’ll see how he does initially. I sense it might not take him much to prove he’s currently a better option than Nunez, Jota, possibly Diaz. Up top. But long term, is it enough to win the highest prizes with him up top? Remains to be seen.

It’s not a great striker market this summer, I was waiting to see if we would come up with some different names other than Isak and Ekitike. And no, I don’t think Isak is coming here. I sense it’s a position we will continue monitoring with great interest, even going into 2026 and even if Ekitike does relatively well.

As for finances, the club knows it’s calculation. That is not to say that everything they do is right, but there are a lot of things which we as fans simply don’t know and will have to trust the club that they know what they’re doing.

So we have our third choice then? SMH. Sounds rubbish.

Yeah, in a world where things are increasingly data-led, certainly at Liverpool anyway, I’m finding myself much calmer about signings and willing to give the club the benefit of the doubt. They believe he stacks up well, so I trust them.

I imagine him thinking, ā€œListen to these fans, and this is only a training…in Hong Kong? Can’t wait to run out at Anfield!ā€

He is more like Thierry Henri imo.

Seeing him next to VVD, he seems to be a towering physical presence, even though he hasn’t the same muscle mass than the Dutchman.

Genius negotiating tactic as well from Hughes.

Ibou asks for 200k a week for a renewal. Hughes responds

šŸ’Ŗ Virgil van Dijk has reacted to #LFC signing Hugo Ekitike and revealed his message to Liverpool FC’s new arrivals.

šŸ—£ ā€œIt’s good to have him here. I said to him, ā€˜The hard work starts now.’ He has to work his socks off and be important for us whenever he can. That’s the main thing. Coming to Liverpool, they will definitely have the quality to play for Liverpool. For me, it’s very important as well how you settle in the group and how you fit into the squad that we have. And I think they did [so] perfectly well. All of them.

šŸ—£ ā€œWe don’t speak about Armin [Pecsi], a young goalie who just came in, has settled in pretty well. Obviously Freddie [Woodman], Giorgi [Mamardashvili], Flo [Florian Wirtz], Jeremie [Frimpong] [and Milos Kerkez]. Hugo came today of course. Everyone has to work hard and we’re all in this together, that’s the main thing. We have to fight for everything that’s ahead of us.ā€
