It’s official! Welcome to Liverpool FC, Jeremy Jacquet
Do we know if he’s recovered enough from his shoulder injury for the start of preseason?
I think we’ll need to be patient and give him a good portion of the season just to get up to speed with the PL especially coming back from his injury. I expect he’ll be thrown in the deep end as a starter alongside Virg as we don’t have too many options. I reckon he’d benefit from us signing another CB who can start and take some pressure off him m
Now, I’m going back to sleep. ![]()
He’s 20 and was sent out last season on loan by Rennes to Clermont Foot… great name for a football club…and we paid £60m for him??
“You missed the final few months of last season due to a shoulder injury. How are you doing fitness-wise now?”
“I feel much improved and I will be 100 per cent ready [for the start of pre-season] because I’m a little ahead of schedule. I was given the go-ahead to start a programme of training with the group [at Stade Rennais], but it was a bit late to be with the team. But with continued hard work I’ll be fully fit before the season.”
It’s in line with the general pattern of football and fees.
I don’t really care too much about the cost (plus not my money) - he’s in the door, he’s talented/exciting, and now its a case of see how quickly he adapts. He might need time, he might adapt seamlessly.
As is always the case, if he’s good, the fee matters little, if he is poor, then the fee becomes a stick to beat him with.
That was the season before, 24/25, when he was, what, 18?
Welcome to the club, Jérémy! May your time with us be one of shared success, with a lot of trophies to celebrate!
He’s like a new signing!
Get him in gym with Leoni.
Looks like he needs to beef up. A strong wind looks like it blow him over.
Your info is wrong!
Some thoughts from Journalists that have watched him play.
French football expert Julien Laurens:
"He’s the real deal. I know he’s only 20, he hasn’t played for France and he hasn’t played in the Champions League or Europa League.
"He has a long way to go but he’s been impressive last season, after they [Rennes] called him back from his loan in the second division, and this season, with Habib Beye.
"You can’t get it wrong. He is going to be amazing.
"He reminds me of when William Saliba burst onto the scene in France with Saint-Etienne, or Wesley Fofana.
“It’s about how much you value that potential and talent. You would pay a lot of money for someone who hasn’t really proved much. It’s a lot of money for such a young player.”
European football expert Kevin Hatchard on Sky Sports News discussing Jeremy Jacquet:
"He’s been seen as a rising star for quite some time. He’s been a captain at numerous youth groups for France and seen as somebody who has all of the building blocks you need to be a modern centre-back.
"He’s good on the ball, good passing range, athletic, great in the air - but he doesn’t have a long record of top-level football.
"He had a loan at Clermont that went well. He’s been playing for Rennes this season, but it shows you just how much they rate him that they really didn’t want to let him go in this window.
“His coach Habib Beye said ‘if we let him go this season, we’ll have to downgrade our goals for the season’.”
In his video interview he comes across as an eloquent and intelligent young man. Very composed for his age. Gives one of his strengths as the ability to play out from the back. Iraola likes that.
Hadn’t seen anything of the lad before, or even heard of him until our interest became known, but for sure what I can 100%, categorically, without shadow of a doubt say, is that he’ll end up being the best CB to have ever played for the club.
So intrigued by him.
To me it seemed a signing we shouldnt have made at the time but I am looking forward to seeing how good he can be for us. Has good reviews.
Rennes are tenown for producing good defenders. It was/is part of their footballing philosophy to get them into the Ligue Un and stay there.
They are becoming more ambitious however this history remains part of their culture.
Honestly I don’t know anything about this player but he should be an asset to us.
