I’m attending a life/spiritual coaching retreat in Basel, Switzerland.
For the past two days I was taking a rather expensive taxi trip back to my Airbnb in a little village in France called Buschwiller each night.
On the third night, I decided to take two buses and then walk what seemed like a pretty straightforward 35 minutes back to my apartment.
That 35 minutes ended up being a walk down a completely dark narrow street, followed by a left turn into what looked like a farmhouse compound and then a clamber over a gate that is exactly like the gates that stop traffic from going through railway junctions. I don’t know why the gate was closed but clambering over was the only option.
And then I crossed over a motorway with cars travelling at over 50 km an hour each direction…
And then the clincher.
The next leg of the journey…I literally walked into the woods. It was 4°C but I was sweating buckets thinking that there may be wolves around.
It was like I walking into one of the stories by The Brothers Grimm!
I walked through that wooded muddy pathway and then I took a right indicated on Google Maps.
It was literally a muddy pasture with zero road markings and complete, pitch-black darkness. Thank goodness for phone torches! The only indication of even the semblance of road was the fact that there were some tractor tracks going down that path. I walked through this quagmire for 15 minutes and then I came to a bit of paved road that was indicated only for farm vehicles. After travelling down that road I finally found civilisation, ergo the village where I had been staying.
Funnily enough, I had a strong 5G signal throughout this unintended adventure. Otherwise I’d have been completely lost!
Suffice to say I will be taking the taxi back tonight.
It’s Mardi Gras in Sydney, which is the big Gay parade and party. Lots of young people out and about in fancy dress.
I wish them well, but I’m full of dread after recent events in the US.
In Bangalore right now. Eagerly waiting to be back home to enjoy some haleem. Good thing with the delay is that friends would have already tried many places and give their feedback.
That sais I generally have once at Bombay hotel in Ranigunj.
Ok, sitting on the balcony of a guesthouse in South West Rocks in NSW drinking a glass of wine with the missus. Wind is raging, sea is churning and all is well with the world. Fingers crossed for all those north of here. We’re still 24 hours from landfall and it’s stormy like mad here, 400 km from the epicentre. I hope everyone stays safe.
On the other hand, it’s magnificent to experience the awe inspiring power of nature.
When I lived in France, I used to love going out to the Rocher de la Vierge during a storm. The footbridge was cordoned off during bad weather, but a few of us would easily get around that.
Feeling the waves slamming into the rock and getting drenched by the incoming waves was truly exhilarating.
