What's happening?

Apparently the cranberry thing isn’t proven, but it seems to be working for me. Maybe placebo effect based on the feeling that anything that disgusting must be medicinal.

Anti-inflammatory and maybe you’re drinking more maybe? Better hydration?

I think there’s a lesson in simply asking yourself how you feel. Do that often to build up some self support for whatever things you’re doing to support your health.

Potassium is a bummer. Most veggies need boiling to death and the cooking water thrown away. No nice rich gravy etc.
I haven’t a ‘condition’ as such however my potassium levels have been high for some time now. Thought it might be the huge quantities of coffee I drank but cutting it out made no difference.
Used to eat loads of veggie stuff like ratatouille however it’s one of the worst concoctions for this.
Onions aren’t bad so basically fallen back to sauces based on that and a lot more meat :meat_on_bone:.
I see in the next month if this is enough.
I am not giving up fruit. I eat apples and oranges which aren’t too high in potassium.
Of course lettuce :leafy_green: is fine so lots of salads when they are in season.
Btw the increase in meat is also to help with my diabetes. I am finally getting a grip on that, a glycémie patch is the biggest help here, not being restricted in number of times a day I can check the levels.

Yeah it’s a pain in the rear end. I found the main drivers for me were meat, so I cut that out. Medication can and does increase potassium levels e.g. ramipril. The other sly one is foods that have potassium sorbate as a preservative. That stuff jacked my levels into the naughty zone. Took me a little while to figure that one out. There’s obviously some foods just off the menu or restricted such as bananas, avocado, nuts, fruit juices and so on.

I boil potatoes then let them soak afterwards. That lowers the levels far lower than boiling alone.

Worth noting that potassium is balanced by sodium, so if you eat a heap of that it can help control your levels. Not great if you want to lower or control blood pressure or water retention. But that’s the line I have to try and walk and where some of the frustration kicks in.

The other frustrations arise from other factors of the disease. My head has a hard time accepting them or getting used to it especially as I feel and operate relatively normally most if the time.

I had very low sodium levels and high potassium levels. Fucking doctor told me to cut even more sodium down. I said my levels are low and I don’t take sodium. She said I had hypertension which is bollocks (well it was a bit high particularly when I saw this doctor as she stressed me out and took my blood pressure even before I’d sat down during a stressful time with a back injury). So I pointed out I had high potassium levels which led to an argument till I indicated my blood test results (which she had already looked at). She also prescribed a hypertension drug full of sodium. Was she taking the piss? Never took the shit anyway.

I know where my heart problems come from and had explained to her. I had Lyme Disease which caused a dilated heart, Myocardia, Bradycardia. I decided to cope with this with exercise as I didn’t want a pacemaker from my mid thirties. The back injury meant I could not exercise as necessary (was laid up for months).

Anyway she gave me a list of fruit and veg and their potassium content which I glance at on occasion.
Later I had my vitamin Levels tested which were also low. Been on supplements over the winter and feel much better for it. So I drink fortified milk as well. I wonder if there’s a link there as well?

From what I can gather sodium can be eliminated via your selles however potassium has to pass the kidneys so is much harder to eliminate.

Btw I tend to eat eggs more than meat but I do need these to feel like I’ve eaten. Due to the diabetes I can not eat quantities of starch so without copious quantities of veg based foodstuffs I’m a bit blocked. Costs a fortune :sob:.

I’m ok. Just spent 2 weeks helping my son decorate his flat. It was exhausting however I managed much better than I anticipated.
Lyme Disease was the big bummer. Had it for 15 years before automédication. I felt soo old with that shit, the more I exercised the worst it got.
I feel it did so much long term damage that anything I get now I blame it on the Lyme Disease.
