I’ll just point out that there is a basic economic argument to this. When we lose valued, long standing members, we don’t just lose their input and posts. We also possibly lose their financial contribution.
This place costs money to run, and there comes a point where the number of people contributing - both financially and intellectually - diminishes to the point where it isn’t viable to keep the lights on.
If people want a space where 4-5 of you can banter each other with increasing tedious in-jokes for your own amusement, start a WhatsApp group.
This place needs to be broader and more inclusive, or it will die.
Just in my defence, although I have been guilty in the past, I mentioned the bank holiday in the Wirtz thread because it was relevant to the discussion and I stated that I would not post there until it’s over on Tuesday as nothing is likely to happen until then.
And that post wasn’t deleted because it was informative… but following on from that was a flurry of posts getting increasingly away from the topic at hand.
We are all guilty at going off topic. Its human nature to deviate from subjects. We all do this, and the moderation is has as @ZinedineBiscan notes been light touch. There is no need to clean up threads that go slightly of track. As long as the central content is clear?
I really don’t think that’s what is in question here. Its more about every thread being littered with in jokes. Potential members wouldn’t understand, and some current members are tired of it.
However, if you raise the issue you are labelled a malcontent. In some world the irony of this statement is understood.
It’s interesting really, and very individualistic as to how the “noise” is precieved.
I tend to fast scroll through threads looking for real news, and am able to filter it out myself. I also just step away now and again when its doing my head in.
Years ago I stopped posting in the in-match threads as its all crying and pissy pants in there.
Shame when people decide to call it a day.
The mods have a really difficult job between policing and not policing the forums - usually something that divides opinion - credit to the mods who have this headache.
Its unfortunate but I cannot see the reason of the state of the forum as a reason for leaving. Maybe I don’t take internet that seriously but unless we want to make this forum a prim and proper one, there is no way you can police and moderate it 100% to the letter.
We’ve all got different ways we accommodate this place, and a time budget to spend on leisure. I’ve got the missus on my back about smartphone use and setting an example for the children. Life happens to us all.
By the way, I’ll likely be heading off on another enforced haitus soon as the forum is informing me that my smartphone is soon to be incompatible with the software. As much as I love this place, I don’t love it quite enough to replace a phone that is otherwise working perfectly well!
In the rumour topics, before having 20+ posts meant some kind of progress or interesting points about the player.
Right now, 100+ posts instantly signals offtopic drivel. Step away for a week and make that 300+ posts at a minimum.
I also feel constantly reposting social media influencers, like the “Here we blabla” guy is making those threads lose even more value, especially when it’s essentially the 5th re-hash of the same source.
Maybe that’s a Wirtz specific issue, since transfers are usually much faster to conclude.
its a great move by the mods as its been way OTT in the last few months/maybe even years
nothing wrong with a bit of a joke and taking a thread off topic isnt poison in itself, its the level its been taken to thats the issue, i mean i imagine the original conversation around the quality of ones Korma, or about COG age was reasonably witty…its just that 12 months later, its had its moment, time to move on
its why, say, @SYBM isnt picked up on because he goes off topic, and them comes back straight away, and when he does it again, its a different joke…not the SAME thing, OVER and OVER.
so i hope the odd off topic comment isnt met with the ‘thats off topic, i got warned for going off topic’ klaxon, becuase i dont think thats what the mods are wanting as a result of this little episode, they just want us to reel it in a bit…
I understand your point, I don’t know much about korma so does not get the jokes of course, but then, what if some members think it’s funny while you obviously think otherwise and probably the big chunk of us who don’t really care? It then becomes the mods having to cater to the opinions of at least 3 parties and there is no way any moderating team can effectively make everyone happy. My point remains that it’s best to take internet forums as what it is. It is a place where common interests can unite us but no need to let differing ones affect us.
Add: I will probably just draw the line at Spamming in a thread in a short period of time but it’s hard to moderate individual sense of humour.
this is not a publicly run forum. the mods will decide and act on how they want the forum to look and run, in an extreme example, if they decided they wanted a forum which solely talked about canadian geese , they could, and they could enforce it…itd be up to the individual to decide whether they wanted to remain here
also, i think we need to acknowledge its not just three people complaining, its actually a bit of a ground swell which is why i imagine they are REACTING (thats an important word here, they have tried to let it run its course naturally) to the 4/5 odd posters who are doing this all over the site
for clarity, i just want to say in the earlier stages i had a bit of a laugh at the COG age banter and Korma ‘fight’…
