There’s so much history behind some of these stadiums. I feel like a club loses a part of its identity when it demolishes a place they called home for a lifetime, a century, or even longer. I get why clubs want to build the latest McStadium, but I hate the recent trend. Not to get sentimental, but football as a whole loses a little bit of its soul every time one of these long standing stadiums get knocked down, whether its Highbury, Vicente Calderon, or even White Hart Lane or Goodison Park. I was glad to hear that the San Siro got protected status when it reached 70 years.
Quite a misleading stat because it’s “in the PL under SAF”. Remember, SAF came to United in I think 86. In the 6 seasons he spent in charge in the old First Division, they lost a total of 64 games in the league. Significantly less flattering. Source:
The most telling thing for me is how none of them looked a good buy at the time. Inter were trying to get rid of Onana who they had just signed on a free and United spunk almost 50m on him. Perhaps could make an exception for Zirkzee, who may have been a good buy at 30m for another side, or the two cheaper players who I don’t know much about, but the remainder of the list is over 550m pounds on players that really weren’t fancied.
It’s almost like someone is playing Championship Manager and has taken over United to bankrupt them…
