He’s a good coach. The United job will prove too much for him though.
Coentrao and Amorim were team-mates at Benfica and presumably internationally as well (their intl caps cover the same time period), so I doubt it’s anything more than bigging up a mate, and his comments shouldn’t be taken as an objective analysis.
In industry when recruiting top management, it was easy enough to find top notch candidates. Academically, and practically, they could do the job standing on their head. That is however, until they are placed in a demanding work environment, that operates at 200mph.
The step-up from a ‘come-day-go-day-every-day-is-Sunday’, working environment of manjana, to one where things come at you thick and fast, without respite, was normally too great of a leap.
When Amorin takes the hot seat at Old Toilet, trying to balance the pressures of the role, and demands for instant success… will probably see the guy off…
Four seasons down the line, chances are they will be back to square one before his arrival -
Yeah, should be taken as an “alternative fact”.
Amorim is good, but he’s no Van Nistelrooy.
Here’s hoping that narrative takes hold when they have a few wobbles under their new man.
Credit where it’s due. At least none of the ManU players have ducked out of England duty after being called up …
Well he would have freedom to roam around Greater Manchester as he serves his doping ban. I’m sure he would go down a storm in the Trafford Centre.
His middle name says it all: Labile.
Just Do It…! :0)
I think they finally got the right man, hopefully not though as it’s fun watching them struggle.
They’ve had the right man about 3 times now.
Isn’t the French spelling La Bile?
Ruben Amorim is set to operate on a more modest budget to former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag and will be tasked with maximising the untapped potential in the squad as the club aims to end the damaging and costly cycle of mass overhauls. (Telegraph - subscription required)
Poor fella is buggered before he starts, untapped potential
Bruno has yet to burst into massive tears that could make him a great star in soap operas
Yep he definitely overacts so would be perfick
Just like how they used to mock us for “turning the corner”, I wish them this vicious cycle to continue. New manager, inconsistent result, brings them to 6th, new era, spends a 150m, is shit but did well in European and domestic cups to later stages, and still ends up in 6th, see good things, spends another 150m, is shit, mid table in Oct, gets sacked. Repeat.
But objectively, Amorim did fantastic in Portugal, no two ways about it. But his task here in Manchester is many times bigger. He first has to deal with the broken squad. We all can see that with great coaching from someone like Klopp and coaches, supposedly average players can become a great team and win. He needs to do that with those in his squad. And then the egos. I would get rid of Bruno as captain. He is one of the most ridiculous captains I ever seen. Remember he actually walks away one time when the going gets tough. The team revolves around his ego or else he just cries. And then the shitty fans who change their minds so rapidly they could win the next F1 race. They will be calling for his sacking once they don’t get the results within this season.
I hope they never get relegated but continue to be in mid table looking up to us as we win titles and cups.
That means he’s getting 300m as opposed to 600m that Ten Hag blew.
My thoughts as well. They know that they can’t miss out on CL football and a coach like Amorim might make the most out of that squad, otherwise they wouldn’t have sacked Ten Hag. I actually think he’ll do well in the short term (their new coaches tend to coax what’s necessary to get enough points out of their players) but I will reserve my judgement for long term.
