Fair point, but with that size a stadium, it wouldnāt be too hard to convince the council to put a station on the local line within the area. I bet the income into the council coffers would be something they would be keen to get their hands on
Is there one? I think the closest station is Kirkdale, and not only is it quite a trek, would the line even have the capacity to dissipate such a crowd?
Thing is first 3 years of Klopp as manager you could get tickets. Iām not sure a 120k would fill especially after a few seasons of poor results.
I wouldnāt be surprised if Slot tickets were easier to come by before the season.
Iām glad we didnāt move, the question next will be whether we can upgrade the other stands one day.
There is an upper limit and thatās about 70k in my view a stadium is ineffective after that, you can point to the season ticket list but these people going every game Iād like to see it, 120k will be a soulless stadium you know that and you can post whatever emoji in response you fucking want.
Isnāt further development of Anfield limited by the general infrastructure of the area? Something to do with road capacity needing to be increased for us to get approval to go above the next threshold? This is where the Utd discussions feel dirty. Government funds already were used about 20 years ago to redevelop an area of Manchester directly benefiting one of the cityās clubs. Now they are going to do it again?
Well Iām not totally sure Burnham wants it but Burnham wants a lot of things.
Anyhow it would require a fair bit of changes, of course the situation has changed drastically over the last 30 years and no doubt could change again at the moment I think thatās the limit of expansion but someone who visited first in 1994 it didnāt really look like it could have been expanded then.
I do think there is an upper limit though, I can never expect a 120k stadium being the norm.
I believe Manchester has had more government funded development than any other city in Europe.
Yes for Liverpool the road network doesnāt support an American style huge stadium. Even as it is it grinds the area to a halt. Two of the main local roads feed into smaller streets - the one I used to go down has to go to a 2 lane (one each way) street as it goes under a rail bridge despite being a 4 lane road on both sides. Thatās about 800 yards from Stanley Park and is one of the main connectors to the stadium area from the motorway.
For Man United they have more organic growing room. The stadium is on unused land for the most part, has a train station built on to the side of the stadium which only operates on matchdays and has multiple local stops on the tram. All stuff that realistically canāt work for Liverpool without a complete overhaul of the entire city.
I donāt think thereās a huge need for a massive further expansion anyway, 60k maybe 65k will likely be our upper limit.
Anyway, fun fact for when you see media outlets praining Man Utdās āgritā or whatever tomorrow - the only team that had fewer shots this weekend was Ipswich and no team had fewer shots on target.
Thing is Iām not so sure it would be that increased. As far as I currently see and itās what is agreed itās one rail per seat.
I donāt think there will be much movement on that for some years.
Of course you could probably increase the amount standing as opposed to sitting but he is going off the lower leagues that donāt have the seating/standing rails as you see in stands today.
End of the day standing was brought back to improve atmosphere and I think itās had some effect I canāt see a loosening further up the pyramid for some time. Itās certainly a lot safer to have this new standing in place instead of the way people stand in seated areas for large periods.
If youāll believe me, ever since that The Athletic article came out about them being willing to listen to offers for Mainoo and Garnacho, Iāve been expecting deals they would strike with clubs like Chelsea or Newcastle, where they would be trading their own academy products, so that everyone would be happy and compliant with PSR.
For what itās worth, I think that both can be stars (though I really, really dislike Garnachoās demeanour) but I wonder what effect learning something like that would have on their psyche. Youāre a kid making a breakthrough at a club where youāve spent a decent part (or whole) of your youth and then you learn that youāre nothing more than a bargaining chip of that clubās hierarchy.
Amorim seems to be playing at being United boss the same way I play FM and go into a new club, trying to convince all the shit players I want to sell to leave by constantly verbally abusing themā¦
