When the shit hits the fan, and they've got the wrong man, that's Amorim!

I always felt that had Eric not been fortunate in which side of the fence he fell, he might have been in a bit of bother.

We should be so lucky.

I said 15 years ago when FSG took over that if they want to really stand out and be successful, they should forget upgrading Anfield, but build a new 120K stadium on Stanley Park. I love the work they have put into the club, but still believe we could easily fill a 120-130K stadium week in/week out.

The problem with that is infrastructure. Ideally, you would want a stadium that size to be walking distance from Lime Street.

I also strongly doubt the city would allow the construction of a stadium that size. The height would be ridiculous and dominate the skyline.

Not to mention the mixed feelings about leaving Anfield for what would undoubtedly be a fairly generic bowl.

Fair point, but with that size a stadium, it wouldn’t be too hard to convince the council to put a station on the local line within the area. I bet the income into the council coffers would be something they would be keen to get their hands on

Is there one? I think the closest station is Kirkdale, and not only is it quite a trek, would the line even have the capacity to dissipate such a crowd?

Thing is first 3 years of Klopp as manager you could get tickets. I’m not sure a 120k would fill especially after a few seasons of poor results.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Slot tickets were easier to come by before the season.

I’m glad we didn’t move, the question next will be whether we can upgrade the other stands one day.

There is an upper limit and that’s about 70k in my view a stadium is ineffective after that, you can point to the season ticket list but these people going every game I’d like to see it, 120k will be a soulless stadium you know that and you can post whatever emoji in response you fucking want.

Isn’t further development of Anfield limited by the general infrastructure of the area? Something to do with road capacity needing to be increased for us to get approval to go above the next threshold? This is where the Utd discussions feel dirty. Government funds already were used about 20 years ago to redevelop an area of Manchester directly benefiting one of the city’s clubs. Now they are going to do it again?

Well I’m not totally sure Burnham wants it but Burnham wants a lot of things.

Anyhow it would require a fair bit of changes, of course the situation has changed drastically over the last 30 years and no doubt could change again at the moment I think that’s the limit of expansion but someone who visited first in 1994 it didn’t really look like it could have been expanded then.

I do think there is an upper limit though, I can never expect a 120k stadium being the norm.

Burnham is all in on it.

Yup he is also a bit gobby about Reeves and Starmer.

I believe Manchester has had more government funded development than any other city in Europe.

Yes for Liverpool the road network doesn’t support an American style huge stadium. Even as it is it grinds the area to a halt. Two of the main local roads feed into smaller streets - the one I used to go down has to go to a 2 lane (one each way) street as it goes under a rail bridge despite being a 4 lane road on both sides. That’s about 800 yards from Stanley Park and is one of the main connectors to the stadium area from the motorway.

For Man United they have more organic growing room. The stadium is on unused land for the most part, has a train station built on to the side of the stadium which only operates on matchdays and has multiple local stops on the tram. All stuff that realistically can’t work for Liverpool without a complete overhaul of the entire city.

I don’t think there’s a huge need for a massive further expansion anyway, 60k maybe 65k will likely be our upper limit.

Anyway, fun fact for when you see media outlets praining Man Utd’s ā€œgritā€ or whatever tomorrow - the only team that had fewer shots this weekend was Ipswich and no team had fewer shots on target.

Today, we’re going to learn how not to build squad morale.

So Garnacho is going help with covering the cost of FFP and allow them to buy players.

No wonder no one’s bought him if they are asking that much.

Think we’ve had a tough time acquiring the land for the last stand as it is. Don’t see Liverpool getting permission to further upgrade capacity.

Maybe safe standing would increase capacity.

It technically shouldn’t as one standing place just replaces the seat.

Not sure on the accuracy of this website.

Thing is I’m not so sure it would be that increased. As far as I currently see and it’s what is agreed it’s one rail per seat.

I don’t think there will be much movement on that for some years.

Of course you could probably increase the amount standing as opposed to sitting but he is going off the lower leagues that don’t have the seating/standing rails as you see in stands today.

End of the day standing was brought back to improve atmosphere and I think it’s had some effect I can’t see a loosening further up the pyramid for some time. It’s certainly a lot safer to have this new standing in place instead of the way people stand in seated areas for large periods.
