To be honest, I think this is the best thing that could happen to Ten Hag at the start of his reign - he will have shown that he’s bigger than club’s biggest player of past fifteen years, club will back him, the rest of the players will sit up and take notice. There wasn’t a better way for him to stop the rot at the club and reported decline of dressing room unity and winning principles. I hope Ronaldo is given a new contract.
The only thing remotely surprising about this situation is that ManU appear to be backing their way into handling it intelligently and firmly, with an eye to maintaining their direction forward. I for one will be disappointed to see the end of management-by-Instagram at that club.
Best thing that could’ve happened to all of them if Ronaldo (who is 37-38 this season) had a bloody clause in his contract, that if United are not in the top 4, he can move for a certain fee. Still wouldn’t guarantee a buyer, but it would be much easier for potential buyers to think about it in the first months of 2022 to, plan the summer. Nobody was willing to take him so late last summer and United played a weird “not for sale” game. Ronaldo doesn’t have the time to wait for United to threaten the top of football and they can’t start building a proper team under Hag with him in the team.
Ronaldo is a legend and needs our support. Man U and Ronaldo departing ways is a terrible idea.
Did the club say anything? I only read that they are going to wait and see the full interview before coming to any decision. Which creates a funny image in my head where Ten Hag will invite all players and execs at United on Wednesday and Thursday for a TV watch-along at 10pm or whatever time its coming out.
I for one am disappointed that I can’t offer you a drink, seeing that I spilled mine for laughing so hard at this comment!
They have only publicly said that they are going to wait to have full information, but they are clearly briefing press that there is no coming back from this and Ten Haag will be given full support.
I think the only real question is what happens in January. Ronaldo will clearly want to be bought out, ManU will offer him a release, and it will go back and forth.
couldn’t they terminate his contract for behavior problems?
Yup not any surprise Ole was garbage.
Hahaha… sorry Mane, I’ve found a new favorite non-Liverpool player.
Most people agree with this one
If he had only criticised the owners, he would be the forever legend much bigger than he is ever now in the manure fans hearts. But I think he has gone a step too far with the timing, the tirades against the managers etc. Although I think their fans would gladly see him gone, his status as a legend for them would probably not be in any danger. I think Ronaldo is a strange one. He obviously is a great player who has proven himself in multiple leagues, that I will give him. He has also done some great things off football obviously but at the same time comes across as a proper prick. I think he should just really retire with his wealth after the World Cup and do something else with his life and hopefully good things for his community with his wealth.
You might cheer him up by painting his portrait Gasbag.
That would be a nice gesture.
To think all this could’ve been avoided if Utd just accepted his wish to leave in August
They did accept it. The problem was that he did not want to leave the club on a free and be a free agent, and there was absolutely no market for him in the clubs that he felt entitled to join. Even now, you can bet he doesn’t want to walk away from the remainder of his contract, he wants to get paid but not play.
