When the shit hits the fan, and they've got the wrong man, that's Scamorim! (Part 3)

I’d like to thank Manchester United for way overpaying for Sesko, making it much easier for Leipzig to meet our asking price for Elliott

That in turn gives us more money for Isak so Newcastle can then move for Hojland - Howe is so many moves ahead :chess_pawn:

These lot have got their act together judging by the players they are targeting this summer.

This feels dodgy. People with knowledge of their finances were questioning whether they had the money to do Cunha AND Mbuemo once they saw what Brentford were holding out of. Yes, there is potentially a lot of money to be freed up with sales, but so far all they’ve done is given players away or invited them back in. Now they’ve gone in on Sesko AND going for another high priced mid on top?

Luckily I don’t rate Sesko.

You’ve said this every year for a decade.

He’s a better Gyokeres, or what some might consider a worse version of Andy Johnson

Everything I had read suggested that they were going to struggle to spend given their league performance, lack of European football, and the amount of money they’ve wasted.

Are they just going to take a fine?

Hehe, it was he who truly insisted on staying though

Well they don’t have to worry about Europe.

Also breach financial fair play in a couple of years they will get a fine of no more than about 6pts.

Of course they will act like Everton fans and claim they’ve done nothing wrong.

It’s my understanding that their main issue is cash flow, rather than PSR. They still generate a fuck ton of revenue each year, but the losses have been mounting up. They supposedly have a 300M pound revolving credit facility that they have some room in, but at some point the cost of servicing all of this debt is going to catch up to them.

I will say that they’re in a really weird place right now with the top 4 clubs - us, chelsea, city, arse - having spent so much acquiring world class or potentially world class players, that if they don’t spend a shitload this summer they’re at serious risk of being completely left behind for the next 3-5 seasons. This feels to me like one last big throw of the dice by bringing in guys like Sesko/Mbeumo/Baleba, with the belief that if it works, they should charge up the table and get back into Europe in short order, and that will help generate more revenue. The flip side of this is that if it doesn’t work, they have absolutely fucked themselves for the foreseeable future. They have to refinance the majority of their debts in 2026 and interest rates are much worse now than when they borrowed. Remains to be seen how that will all shake out, but this feels like a huge pivot point for United - either they’ll be competitive in the league next season with fewer games to worry about, or they’ll continue to struggle and fall short of European football again, meaning lowered revenue from sponsors, TV, etc.

And hopefully he continues saying it for the next 100 years

Probably because he was given assurances about their summer spending!

Looks like shit, no coffee bar, which the players/staff would still have to pay for.

I guess they will see in nine days…

That sort of puffery always reminds me of the great Mike Tyson line " Everybody has a game plan until they get punched in the mouth"

In fairness, Tyson was proven right more often than not regarding game plans and landing the first punch

Well, exactly. Very easy for Amorim to talk about how poor the Arsenal defence is along one vector and how easy it will be to take them apart…harder to do when they are down the other end battering whatever hapless dickhead they have in goal this year
