Sure. But that’s 375m spent over 3 years. That’s 125m per year on the transfer fees. (Not including wages).
If the outgoings give us 240m over whatever period (3 years as per FFP the likes of Nunez/Diaz/Elliot/Morton/Quansah/Kelleher/ Arnold) did sign at their new club. We just might be setup with a spend of 135m spread over 3 years. Which is approx 45 per year effectively.
FFP rules state that no club can make a loss over x (supposedly 60m) amount per year over a 3 year period. Even including the increase in wages , we are still financially good enough to go in for another player even if Isak and Guehi come in.
I doubt we will make that many changes though. At the risk of fucking over team cohesion
But financially we are in a good position. Good enough to buy someone like Rodrygo at equal rates for Diaz and definitely good enough to buy a backup striker of 40m(Mateta) to supplement either of Isak or Ekitike
Elliot - 40m (approx)
Arnold - 10m
Kelleher - 16m
Quansah - 35m
Nunez - 60m (approx)
Diaz -80m (approx)
That takes the outgoing transfer fee to 240m. Assuming these are the transfer fees we do end up recieving
I’ve seen reports that it would be this years budget.
I don’t think it really matters either way really from an accounting point of view.

I’m starting to get concerned about the amount of potential changes.
If it was just adding Guehi and an in/out of Isak/Nunez then I’m comfortable.
But if we’re also losing the likes of Diaz and Elliott then that’s a lot of changes, particularly to the attacking third. Even if, on paper, we might be stronger.

While all new players could easily be put into the 1st 11,there’s not a need to do so immediately as we still have 2 top FBs in Robbo and Bradley as well as Gakpo in the left forward spot.
In terms of the starting line up we can put out a team with only 3 changes(CB, AM, CF) to last year’s starting 11 and allow another 3(RB, LB, LW) to be integrated over the first few months.

I agree. I don’t ever remember a transfer window with so much turnover. It’s bound to take time for new teammates to gel.
It is a double edged sword. But some of the chances are beyond the clubs control
I’m personally more happy if Diaz stays but he either signs a new contract or we change him. His constant flirting around with Barcelona is irritating.
Nunez should go. He’s had enough time and just hasn’t delivered. Again a likable chap and someone clearly liked by the dressing room
Elliot is someone I personally like but with Wirtz coming in , there’s no place for him.
Morton is a non entity as far as first team chances are concerned.
Who else. Slot clearly doesn’t rate Quansah as good enough yet.
Trent ran down his contract and forced us to a change.
Robbo(at this point) and Tsimikas aren’t good enough to be a starting LB. Again another change that’s forced on the club but still is a natural progression.
Konate seems intent on running down his contract and that’s where the problem lies.
The club didn’t rate Kelleher enough to stick with him.
The only real changes which the club initiated are
Wirtz coming in , Elliot going out
Kerkez coming in , replacing Tsimikas or Robbo ( natural progression)
A replacement for Nunez.
Selling Quansah
Every other activity here has been something which has been forced on the club either due to players running down their contract (Konate / Trent) or with Diaz lobbying for a move outside. And the Jota catastrophe.
We will need a striker.
And a LW in case Diaz leaves.
It’s something which is unavoidable. The club didn’t plan for Diaz to agitate to leave. Konate and Trent leaving on a free isn’t something planned by the club too. Neither is the Jota situation.

One of the challenges of staying on top is the psychological tendency to allow the standards that were critical in getting you to the top to drop off. That becomes even harder with a big and quick turn over of players because those new players will inherit the mantle of champions without having earned it or experienced the way of working that got them there. You hope the competition for places takes care of that, but the vast majority of athletes only think they know what a daily commitment to excellence is really like in practice and in lots of cases it has to be learned, often by coming into a group that already holds each other to those standards.

Or the new players add impetus by wanting to win something themselves and not second hand.
We’ll see how it pans out, but I don’t imagine any complacency in our new cohort.

With the exception of Trent and potentially Diaz, all the departures are around the periphery of the squad under Slot, and the core of last year’s team will remain largely the same at least at first. We’re letting go those that have been deemed non-essential and elevated the overall quality of the squad.
I think it’s a non-issue.

Seeing as Darwins form upped when he had a haircut…and Mo have a seriously good season after getting his locks chopped…
I would get in a former pro to attend to haircuts. Maybe Shearer?

Do we really need a former pro to wield a pair of electric clippers?
Just do a No.1 all over for the whole squad. Easy

While elements of Trents game will be a loss to us, Bradley has been well involved in the first team for more than a year so I don’t see a dropoff there in terms of effort or experience needed to keep levels up.
If say Isak were to join us, I can’t see that being a psychological disadvange when compared to Nunez. I love Nunez effort but his easy misses in front of goal are psychological and seemingly getting worse.
Rodrygo, instead of Diaz, if he were to join us is coming from Madrid and he’d be well aware of the expectancy and efforts needed when playing for a top side.
Wirtz and Frimpong may still have some growing to do but having been on a winning side with Leverkusen may not be as far away as might seem.
That leaves Kirkez and Guehi who will probably be at a level where they’ll need to improve their mindset, but with so much top level experience around them, and time to settle in, I don’t see it being as big an issue as it may look to some.
Unfortunately our biggest loss this year will be Diogo, who would have been helpful when trying to ease new players in but also that extra quality player to rely on.
I’m sorry, I like Bradley just as much as everyone else, but to blithely state that he will seamlessly slip into Trent’s place is wishful thinking on steroids. Conor is a good young player still learning his trade, who looks like an excellent prospect for the future. He’s quite inconsistent, as is to be expected of a player of his age, but has a good attitude and is learning fast.
Trent is an exceptional talent who has won everything with us and was coveted by all the top clubs in Europe.
I’m glad we have Bradley, but I’m also glad he’s not our only option at right back.

As I’ve said, elements of Trents game are a loss to us, defense is not one of those elements. In my opinion, Conor is the better defender while Trent is much better creatively. I think we can afford to lose what Trent gave us with bringing in the likes of Wirtz and Isak and being tougher in defence with Bradley.
I’m not even convinced about that. We saw Bradley often struggle against good left wingers in the second half of the season.

He’s a better defender than Trent.
Probably, I haven’t seen the pie chart, but he’s not as much better as people make out.
He’s not yet at the level to be an automatic starter for us. Hopefully that’ll change over the season.
This is more a continuation of some of the comments I’ve seen in the Isak thread, and I thought it’s better in here.
Does anybody believe, especially for the money talked about, that Isak would be coming in while keeping Diaz?
Let’s look at the numbers:
There are 3 attacking positions in this team. It seems that unless we move to a back 3 this will continue next season. That is 3.4k premier league minutes each for a total of 10.2k minutes.
24/25 in the PL saw:
1.1k minutes for Nunez
1.1k minutes for Jota
2.4k minutes for Diaz
1.9k minutes for Gakpo
3.3k minutes for Salah
We know Nunez wasn’t trusted. Jota we always needed to account for his persistent injuries (missed 6? PL games last season)
This season we will be going in with:
Wirtz
Gakpo
Salah
Isak AND Diaz?
Even accounting for Salah likely not having the stellar injury luck he had last season, I just don’t see how we could provide the minutes between those 5 knowing that no-one is injury prone like Jota was, and with Wirtz likely taking Salah-level minutes.
Do you buy for just-in-case injury-wise? To ease Burdens in the CL? If we were talking about a litter transfer figure I might tend to agree. If we were talking a younger player in early 20’s for around £40m-60m I’d agree. But I don’t see us breaking a transfer record again on a player that with Diaz might ride the pine for quite a bit of the season.
For me if that interest is valid then I feel it’s a clear sign Diaz is off.
Is Ekitike expected to be significantly cheaper? If so, there’s a chance Diaz stays.
And it’s not the transfer fee per se: big transfer fee tends to bring big wages and big contract and I don’t see us trying that balancing act with Isak if we are keeping Diaz.
It is interesting to note how much this summer sets up the next generation of Liverpool, and how much more needs to be done over the next few windows.
There is a realistic chance that in two years, we’ll have the following first team players from this past season gone:
- Mo
- Alisson
- Van Dijk
- Robbo
- Nunez
- Diaz
- Konate
- Trent
- Diogo (RIP/QEPD).
Those players, on their own, have to account for a massive percentage of our total minutes allocation last season. Something like 70%+, I’d guess.
And that is without considering any pursuit of other first team players, such as Mac Allister (who has been linked with Spain on more than one occasion) or Gakpo, or other possible players linked with moves elsewhere, such as Gomez, Elliott, Chiesa, or Tsimikas. Jones is also under contract through 2027, so the clock is ticking if we want to renew.
That’s a massive amount of potential turnover.
So far, we’ve replaced our fullback, keeper, and added Wirtz. But we’ll likely still need to add 3+ CBs, 3+ forwards, and possibly some depth otherwise over the next couple years.
Thankfully, we have some time. But I still believe we need at least one forward and one CB this window.
