Who would you buy? (Part 2)

I wasn’t rambling as you suggest.
You are dismissive of MacAllister based on last season. I used the comparitor of him being in the WC Runners up team, whilst Wharton didn’t even get in the England squad.
You still haven’t shown the metrics you measure Wharton by, I used a comparitor which isn’t really rambling.

BTW.
Wharton is a good player, but not one we currently need.
Our CB, RB and winger areas are more pressing.

You also said you dont care about who Tuchel picks, so why is it relevant?
Especially given he didn´t pick Trent. Should we sign Argentina´s right back over Trent?

If you like I could break down footage of Wharton and why we need what he does. I could also just tell you his passing through the lines suits Wirtz much more than any of our current midfielders´ traits. And probably Isak´s movement too.

I havent looked at Wharton´s numbers from last year. I´m sure theyre better than Mac´s but I dont think that necessarily proves anything.

I haven’t looked at MacAllister’s figures from the season before last, but I’m pretty sure they’re better than Wharton’s.
Which proves fuck all.

Your basing the “need” to have Wharton on your obvious like for the player.
Point remains, we are well stocked in midfield. Other areas need additions.

I don´t know why you´re repeating the figures prove nothing when I said it myself, better or worse. Although Wharton was what, 21, 2 years ago?

My like for the player isn´t some random thing. Oh what a great lad, lets buy him. I like him as a player for us because he does things we need. Things top midfields should have.

Your point may remain but it´s very flawed. Numerically we may be stocked. Quality wise and for compatibility with our 120 mil number 10 and number 9, we are absolutely not stocked.

Right.
You like Wharton
I don’t disagree, he is a good player.
Not the top level just yet, in my view.

We have seven players for two positions.

Szoboszlai, Gravenberch, MacAllister all proven at top level.
Jones and Nyoni, for different reasons.
Bacjetic who may outdo them all with ability.
And Endo.

If we sign Wharton, well and good.
But our need is greater elsewhere

Do find it interesting that Wharton hasn’t gone anywhere yet or really been linked with anyone.

Proven at the top level (being in the team for you) and delivering top level performances are two very different things.

Indeed, we have 7 midfield players, none of them capable of performing the specific roles well enough, arguably. Or at the very least it remains to be seen, especially with Wirtz as the 10, which was not how they setup in their title winning season.

And @GaryBarlow99 indeed, as do I. Maybe the fee scaring people off. Anderson going for 130 was crazy.

Right.
I’m out.
Patronising smugness is a really dislikable trait of yours.

Despite you calling me bitter, in another thread I was willing to let it slide and engage in discussion. I really should have trusted my initial judgement.

OK. As you like.

You could just not reply. I won´t be offended.
This performative post wasn´t necessary.

Oh its neccessary.

Me too, I think it’s strange how quiet it’s been. Maybe it’s all linked to Szobo’s comment on Mac: “If he comes back”…

:eyes: :eyes:

If you say so.

Obviously it rubbed you up the wrong way. That explains your responses. I had forgotten.

Anyway feel free to be ´out´. Enjoy your evening.

Fuck me, I reckon the busiest Palace forums have less mentions of Wharton than this place…

I bet they have their own version of liverdinner rolling off a list of players for £80 million, £75 million, £65 million as though its peanuts too…

That would be truly outrageous in a´Who would you buy?´ thread…

True, but if musk was our owner and brought who you’d want , he’d be signing on a week later cause he’d be skint .

I’d like to develop what we have and see which of our talented youngsters can take a step forward. Don’t think we will have a problem qualifying for the UCL but don’t think we are far enough in our rebuild to challenge either. Hence I’d like to see some emphasis on development.

Our midfield is fine with the personnel we have.
Rather than Wharton, who I believe has limited upside and plenty of downside for the price, I would prefer for the limited funds to be spent on a winger and a CB. I don’t mind something similar to what we did in January… spending on some top young midfield talents.

But in the coming season we will be fine with a midfield of: Gravenberch, MacAllister, Szob, Nyoni, Jones, Bajcetic and Endo. I don’t think there are many attainable players that would improve us (without getting ripped off) so I would consider it one of our strengths (provided Iraola gets a normal performance out of them).

Winger: I’d go for Said El Mala… for the goals and upside at the quotes prices. At CB, we have so many young options but need a senior figure. Tomori would do it for me.

Spending about £70m in total would allow us more flexibility to see how some of our youngsters and new players develop and to still have room to adjust.

Koumas, in particular, might have a future under Iraola.

Really? Mine were 310 spent and about 160 in with conservative fees. Pretty doable considering we are supposedly after Barcola for 100 mil plus now.

I think you just wanted to stick the boot in didnt you. This forum is a bit cliquey

When Iraola is giving interviews saying he’s been surprised by our younger players and they are at a ‘very, very high level’ I think we can rule out a crazy spending spree after getting in a top winger like Barcola. It’s encouraging because he obviously was working with some pretty average players at Bmouth but still managed to get them playing like a top side. If he can have the same effect on ‘very high level players’ then we could be in for a treat. The only downside might be that his former players were all probably playing out of their skins and working as a team to cement their PL careers, whereas with a team of top players there might be the primadonna effect that works against building a really tight unit.

Might be true but managers say all kind of stuff when they come in. He´s never going to say they´re all a load of shite is he.

People do this though. They´re looking for signs and good things in everything a new manager says and does. Look how animated he is in training and stuff. It´s natural i guess.
