You need physical bodies to be able to get something out of. We dont have them
I donāt disagree. We do. Iām playing devilās advocate. This was a concern with regards to leaving or being forced into the Iraola move late.
Everything feels very disjointed at the moment.
I donāt think the change in manager really changes much though in terms of recruitment. Perhaps we would have brought in Wharton, but we would have still probably had the same issues bringing in defenders and wingers.
Really glad we have him. Height is pretty important for a CB position and we would have struggled with his brother Les Talla

Again playing devilās advocate, weāre buying players without input from the manager now?
How many defenders do we have on the books? Counting Frimpong we have 9. Does the club say thatās enough? I know how that doesnāt work is discussed above but do those looking at transfers see it that way?
I agree we are short of players in places and short on form or quality in others but I having nagging doubts about our transfer business at the moment
Well, we lost our starting CB Konate who had an iffy season but was due a bounce back especially with Iraolaās style. And we lost our big right wing threat Salah who I would say would get a fair few more goals from last season in a heavy metal football setup.
And we havenāt replaced either. We are STILL without any currently top quality wingers. Goodness knows who will start at RB, especially if Jones is off to Inter.
So we are in a significantly worse position than last season. We are not in a position like in the heyday of the Klopp era where we could be ultra picky who we brought in, because we had genuinely world class players performing at world class levels.
We are far far from that right now.

Big time!!
Heās trying to be cringey. And succeeding.
Succeeding is such a loose term
Yup, and you can just see the transfer committee saying ābut we spent huge sums last Summerā.
I need to look up our wage bill. Iāve got a feeling we have a bloated squad that is completely unbalanced.
Even better as talla means size in Spanish, more or less.

What would you know ![]()
I canāt agree on Mo, he has lost his pace to stretch teams and he would be required to do more defensive duties under Iraola and that isnāt a strength of his.
Ibou carried on his form in the one game he played for France, so not a major miss, apart from numbers wise, but for the wages he wanted didnāt justify in keeping him.

My emphasis was on replacing them rather than retaining them. We should have sold Konate end of the title winning season and brought in a replacement. Preseason is nearly done and we donāt have a single major signing and yet we have major injury worries and, even with a full squad, glaring deficiencies that havenāt been addressed.

Agreed, the fannying about with Konate and the way he played us, is still galling.

We didnāt learn anything from the Trent saga. Got played the exact same way with player heading to the same club. Look at this photo
This lot are nowhere near ready for this season.
Have we learned nothing from Bajceticās case? We are going to rush these lads in and ruin their careers as well.
Again playing devilās advocate, weāre buying players without input from the manager now?
Not sure how you deduce that from what I wrote and the answer should be obvious since we only just signed Munoz off the back of the Managerās ask that we do so.
The broad needs of the squad whether Arne or Iraola where managing us this year are largely the same are they not - priority is wingers and preferably better reliable depth in defence, perhaps something adding to midfield and cover for Isak too?
Itās unlikely there is much difference in the types of wingers being sought for either manager, and it appears to be relatively thin market so the top targets will largely be the same in that position. Itās also a sellers market, driving up the costs of each individual deal.
The only real difference I can see is whether we are bringing in more wingers for Iraola (if we are indeed after both Mbaye & Barcola after having brought in Munoz already) than we would have done for Arne. That may necessitate less business elsewhere in the team unless there are outgoings.
Itās also unlikely we are going to be going into the market and spending big for a defender who isnāt going to a clear upgrade on what we have, and happy to play the role that the club needs filling.
I expect we will see a flurry of work done at the tail end of the window as we see some of the bigger moves completed, our players moving on, and the loan market possibly opens up one or two opportunities for us.
