Camara popped up again but he was invisible against us in the friendly

Yeah he didn“t do anything to scream buy him.

A few times he outcompeted our players 1v1 and he was tidy but I think they lost the midfield battle ultimately. it“s a step up from Ligue 1, the PL.

I was looking at the squad composition and, aside from the already known weaknesses that the recruitment chaps are hopefully working overtime to resolve (i.e. wingers), it looks like the squad are going to need a no. 6 and, probably more urgently, a new goalkeeper next season. So, what our resident stattos are saying, what are some feasible options out there?

I hear Brentford have a pretty excellent no1, homegrown too…

See video in the post 3193

Keepers are hard to assess especially in regards to distribution

My totally non-statto based gut feeling guesses for goalies who could be possible candidates: Costa at Porto or Verbruggen at Brighton.

Just out of interest, what sort of #6 do you think the squad needs?

Don’t make fun of me but I’d love a Rodri-style of no. 6 there. Not the quickest but his reading of the game, passing and overall technical ability and ability to impose himself on the game are something our midfield is lacking at the moment.

Impressed last season but how good is he with the ball at his feet?

Have we yet perfected the science to clone a 23yo Xabi Alonso?

I think the point of that Josh Williams video the other day was that there just isn’t that player available this summer.

Preach it. I think he’s one of a kind, but also, he didn’t arrive at City as the player he is now. If there’s someone out there who profiles remotely close to a young Rodri, I hope we’re all over that.

I’m really excited to see how we develop over the coming months, particularly the pressing scheme. I’m probably in the camp of thinking about it from a more collective point of view, ever since I watched the tactical breakdown John McKenzie did for Redmen Tv. I thought that was a good insight to what’s likely to be required, a point of reference of sorts.

Yeah, Rodri was actually not amazing when he first arrived at City, I can remember clowning on him for it in his first season.

Just saw this, maybe relevant for the midfield debate:

Hhm, to me he looks like a Championship-tier player at best during the pre-season.

He’s not technically the cleanest player, but I think looks could be a little deceiving. There’s obviously something he does that coaches find appealing; Klopp saw something in him, and Slot as well.

It could be he’s learning quicker than others, maybe he’s very low maintenance for the manager, making him an ideal squad player. Hard to know.
