Yeah he’s getting on a bit but still quicker than MacAlister
The one who looked brilliant in the single half of football he’s played for us, and the other that hasn’t arrived yet?
Title thread " who would you buy"…why is there a conversation about semi decent players from over 15 years ago?![]()
Oh yes, I would buy @norwegian_wood’s return. Great to see you back.

They are also, as things stand, two-thirds of our CBs.
“2/3 of a CB”…and Joe Gomez puts his hand up and say “yes, what can I help you with?”
Wait. I meant except for them too. I would absolutely keep them.
I did write a fucking essay to be fair to me , so a bit of a typing mistake at the end.
Leoni looked great yep. I also think Gomez is fantastic when fit and would keep him. They would be my four and then one coming in to replace Van Dijk next year and be a big player for us now.
poor ol’ JoGo. There was at least half a season there when he eclipsed Virg and was our premier defender.
I ballsed up me typing.
I´d keep them both obviously. As you said, they´re a big portion of our actual defenders.
Good shout on Van Hecke especially in light of the passing from the back. With only a year left on his deal hopefully Brighton would be reasonable on the price.
It’s going to be interesting to see the signings we make this summer under Iraola.

I thought he would go for 50m but they’ve just rejected 70m from Spurs so… guess not!
I thought £70m was what Brighton were asking for him.
Btw, congrats to Keiran Morrison for his NI debut this afternoon. Played very tidily and was withdrawn as planned at halftime.
What do we think about Jonathan Rowe at Bologna.
Quick, can shoot, good dribbler and he´s English. Holds the ball a little long sometimes but talented.
If anyone want a go at this?

It’s the Anfield Wrap transfer committee game in an online form. If you haven’t listened to it the rules are
-
roll a dice for your budget, whether wantaway players sign deals, and offers for players, then chose whether you want to accept offers
-
sell and buy who you want, but balance the budget, make sure you stay within wage constraints and keep your home grown quota for healthy.
-
there is an in-game decision to deal with
-
if you chose to buy a player marked ‘saga’ you have to roll the dice at the end of the game to find out if you got the player. You might miss out
On the dice, I lucked out with a dice on the transfer budget so I got the full £200m to play with. I didn’t bother rolling to decide Konate’s fate as we already know he is leaving. But I did manage to keep hold of Jones by rolling a 2. I was offered 27m for Frimpong (which I turned down), got lowballed on Mac Allister for £34m (but took it anyway), 75m and 102m for Szob and Flo respectively (both rejected) but got £68m for Gakpo, who I didn’t want to sell, but on reflection it was too good to turn down.
I also sold Owen Beck, Endo and Chiesa. This gave me a total budget of £313m to hit the market with.
I chose to get Van Hecke at £36 and Geertruida at £17m to bolster the defence, added Adam Wharton to midfield at £73m, in attack I bought Barcola for £73m, Conceicao for £46m, and Minteh for £51m. And because we need a striker until Ekitike is fit, and also because what the fuck, I grabbed Lewandowski on a free.
My in game decision was that I got a run at Diomande for £90m, but I’m not interested at that price.
I still remember people talked about the team being weak, crooked and ‘past-it’ when Klopp arrived as well. We had a team that lost to Stoke 6-1 in the last game of the previous season, and Gerrard left. But Klopp said ‘I want these guys’ or something of the same effect, and that season ended with the Europa final.
I think we are in the same situation, even slightly better, than that time, so I don’t expect to see a whole sale change if the new manager know his stuff. Iraola also stated he wanted to look at the youth. That’s enough to get me excited even if we buy just 1-2 more players this summer.
I’d buy Diamande for pace up front. I’d also bring in Summerville from West Ham as another quick winger option. I’d even look at Jarrod Bowen because he can cover the right side and also play centrally.
I’d sign Camara as a defensive midfielder. He reminds me a bit of N’Golo Kanté someone who can defend, press, carry the ball forward, and give the midfield more energy.
I’d also bring in Stiller and Stottenberg from Germany as another midfield and defender option, and I’d try for Barcola from PSG if possible, because another winger with pace would give the squad more variety.
Who would I sell?
I’d probably sell Mac Allister( I think legs have gone), Gakpo, and Curtis Jones if he doesn’t sign a new contract.
I’d also make sure Szoboszlai signs a new deal, because we can’t keep letting players run their contracts down. That can’t become a trend.
Overall, I think that would give Areola enough tools to work with.
Are they copying redmenTV who have been doing it also?
TAW have been doing it for a few years, good fun.
I’ll hold my hands up and say that I’ve been listening to some of the ideas from the redmen director of football approach, and I actually agree with some of it. I liked a lot of what was being suggested about the speed and athleticism of the squad. I think some of the ideas went a bit too far, but the overall direction made sense to me.
I’m not proposing anything quite as drastic, but I do think there are certain players Liverpool could move on. Obviously, Federico Chiesa looks likely to leave, and if you can get around £10 million for him, that’s probably sensible business. I’d probably keep Wataru Endo around because of his experience and squad value.
If Liverpool have a transfer budget of around £200–250 million, I think the players I’ve mentioned are realistic targets. They’re not fantasy signings, they’re players who should be attainable.
I also think Liverpool could raise money through sales. For example, I believe Alexis Mac Allister could still command somewhere between £50–60 million in the market.
I know this won’t be a popular opinion, but my concern with Mac Allister is that he reminds me of the transition period under Klopp when Jordan Henderson and Fabinho started to lose their mobility. I’m not saying they’re the same player, and I know Mac Allister is only 27, but I see some of the same warning signs in terms of physicality and covering ground. For me, if the club is moving towards a faster, more athletic midfield, then selling him now while his value remains high could make sense.
The money generated from those sales could then be reinvested into the players I’ve suggested, helping Liverpool build a younger, quicker squad with more pace, energy and depth across the pitch.
Ultimately, that’s the direction I’d like to see the club go in.
Most of what you say and RedmenTV regarding what we need and who to sell is mostly the view on here, so you aren’t speaking out of turn.
Some of my concern is the churn and we may have to look at this season as a transition season, especially as players will be late back due to the World cup, hopefully they will all be knocked out early, but I agree with others that we should still always aim for the top spot as you never know what we might achieve.
