All the evidence seems to suggest it’s correct.
That’s the likely figure of how much revenue was lost not the loss the club made. There’s around £35m revenue from the delayed restart of the season before that will show in this year’s accounts as well as the first year of the hopefully large increase in commercial revenue due to the Nike deal too to counteract that loss a bit. Then the Redbird investment was said to mean any losses in the last financial year won’t affect the financial year we are just starting now and includes this summers business.
This has probably been explained before, but does this ‘loss’ include the £500m from RedBird, or is that FSG’s money and not the clubs money?
It’s FSGs money. But if LFC makes a loss one year it comes directly out of FSGs pocket. Then the question is do FSG take that loss on the chin (they’ve also had more direct investment into FSG since buying us than they’ve ever spent on us) or take it back out of the revenues of the following financial year/years. We were told due to the Redbird investment they would take the loss on the chin and we wouldn’t be having that as an anchor round our necks this financial year. Judging by our spending though I don’t think our actions have backed that claim up.
It’s FSG’s money. From what I recall JH said something about some of the the money being used to soften the effects of the financial losses on the club, but I don’t think it is clear yet as to how exactly. It might be sitting there to spend on players should the right one be available and we have sufficient space on the squad. My guess though is it is that it might have been earmarked for the work on the stadium or something.
It’s Mikey’s leaving present. Mbappé, Bellingham, Saul, Chiesa and Martinez will all be leaning against the awkward nerd tomorrow.
This is just my opinion of course, but I don’t think our squad as constructed is winning the PL or CL this year. I have us finishing 4th in ZB’s prediction thread.
That doesn’t mean anything other than what it means. In this case I would love nothing more than to be wrong, and ultimately I hope I am wrong!
My feelings are less an indictment on our boys and our squad as it is more a statement of how competitive I believe the league will be this year, and I also happen to believe the talent gap has been closed up significantly.
I still think we have a chance to win it (although we will need absolutely perfect luck on some things) but the others have all definitely improved. City are strong again unlike the season we won it. Chelsea under TT is a strong outfit. United are a rolling tank, so rubbish in some ways but will still end up rolling over most things in sight. We are only better if we are lucky with injuries and form across the squad, neither of those are guaranteed.
Agreed on all, ARD, start to finish. I also think Spurs are in the conversation and same can be said for Leicester.
I think Ox can be a big factor for us and obvs a healthy Keita is the biggest addition we could possibly want or hope for.
I actually think the biggest unknown factors that this season will succeed or fail on are form and fitness for the attack. Mane and Firmino have patches this season like they did middle of last year and it’ll cost us points we can’t afford to drop. We will probably need 90+ points again to be in the title discussion and it might be a new record points tally to secure CL football. There will be no room for slipping up. And god help us if the injury good luck for our attack runs out VvD last season style.
Real disapointment that we did not get a CF we still have problems scoring goals drom the guys upfront and our midfield could not score in a brothel.
This can be another lost season like last year
Let’s hope not but I have major worries if we need to rely on our attacking depth for more than a game or two.
I find it very strange that our midfield just will not take chances to shoot from 20-25 yards. Fab in particular received a large number of lateral passes onto his right side from Elliot and I don’t think that having a shot ever crossed his mind.
I would have hoped that we could get some poachers in front of goal for rebounds and such from some long shots, as floated crosses from the corners of the box usually sail out for a goal kick or headed clear by the defenders who are a good head taller than the strikers.
Definitely an issue that needs sorting out, IMO.
Did Klopp’s midfielders at Mainz or Dortmund take long shots? I would think much of that is down to team instruction, to work the ball to the forwards. Some of it may come from lack of confidence of some of the midfielders in having a go?
There’s still 25 hours left in the transfer window. If Bobby is out for a few months, that may just force the club’s hand.
I feel it’s more instructions than confidence. Hendo, Fab and Ox for us have both scored worldies from 25+ yards. Keita used to take shots at RB, I remember some of his highlight reels from his time there.
and those instructions are good in a free-flowing game, but if you’re playing against a 10-man bus like we were on Saturday and you don’t even LOOK like you’re going to shoot… Well there’s no incentive for the opposition to close you down and the game doesn’t open up. We just looked so pensive in possession that the lads don’t look like they’re playing on instinct at times.
our front line is fairly diminutive in respects to many other in the league, so it’s not to our advantage for them to be pinned outside. a well-drilled defensive set up in a low-block is very difficult to break down if you don’t think outside the box (no pun intended)
It’s low percentage stuff. Our players have the odd shot when it opens up but otherwise we try and work our way around. I can remember at least 4 semi decent efforts from distance against Chelsea, don’t think we need to be trying many more than that.
Just having pot shots like lots of people seem to be calling for isn’t a sustainable way to win games every week, hence why we don’t do it.
but if you’re playing against a 10-man bus like we were on Saturday and you don’t even LOOK like you’re going to shoot
We took seven shots from outside the box against Chelsea from a total of 24 or just under 30%. Not sure you’d class that as “not even looking like you might shoot”.
I like it as a way to make our threat more varied but it needs players following the shots in. As you say, the long shots themselves are low % but the second balls/rebounds are potentially rewarding.

sure a shot is low percentage, but Mane and Salah are both very good poachers for rebounds. it’s going to be a higher percentage than the floated crosses that our strikers aren’t even able to get to.
