Speaking of low cost midfielders, I hope we don’t regret not moving for Joao Gomes. It will be frustrating if we see him quadruple in value in the next 1-2 yrs, playing well in the Prem, especially given our need now.
There was an article awhile ago that basically said everyone was surprised Newcastle got him for what they did.
Gutted we missed him, seems a top fella as well.

The midfielders don’t need any explanations, I suppose. The midfielders must be versatile enough to play in multiple positions and in multiple structures. However, one should be competent enough to play #6 in a single or double pivot while the other should be an industrious #8.
I don’t think Kelleher is going to stay with the odd games he is getting. If he does, I will seriously question his ambition and hunger. Alisson is still going great but he will need an able deputy for 5-10 games each season.
Gomez isn’t going to turn the corner, Matip shouldn’t be renewed beyond 2024, and VVD will be 34 when his contract ends in 2025. We need another CB who will partner Konaté.
Salah will be 33 when his contract ends in 2025. Díaz and Jota weren’t as good playing on the right as they are playing on the left or, in Jota’s case, at the center. However, considering that we have five (not counting Firmino) senior forwards, this shouldn’t be a priority.

If Potter is still there next summer, I could imagine him wanting Colwill back at Chelsea, maybe competing with Badiashile for the LCB spot.

It is difficult to name names as to who I would buy, as the overarching issue is the sale of the club, in whole or in part. It is difficult to know if we are going shopping at Lidl or Waitrose. Related to that it is difficult to know who might be leaving, apart from contract expirations.
Still, the first priority is two midfielders.
After that, a CB who could be the long term partner for Konate. It isn’t a priority just yet, but it is one to watch, as we don’t want the same thing to happen to central defence as what has happened to the midfield.
An understudy for Mo is needed too.
And depending on the goalkeeper shuffle, a solid replacement for Adrian to come in as number two, with Kelleher being allowed to leave to make a career for himself, though I’d like to see a buy back inserted there, as he could be the long term replacement for Allison.

There seems to be this false notion that we can’t get money for our players, nobody would want our players because we no longer want them etc.
Over the last 5 years the club has racked in over 100m on trash/squad players.
Fabinho has been a regular for us, Kessie’s warmed Barca’s bench all season.
