Darwin was considered a coup and Gapko and Diaz had serious competition for them

Yeah… providing Benfica big parties is considered a coup these days.

:joy:

We spent a record fee on one of the most in demand forwards on the market. The fact it hasnt worked out the way most wanted doesn’t change that.

Don’t know if coup is the right word.

But anyway, time to actually get the next one right after a while.

My Dad randomly won a signed Joe Cole Liverpool shirt at a charity dinner a few months ago and has given it to me. Going to mount it on my wall like it’s Mo Salah’s jersey from the Champions League final.

Kerkez over Robinson for me. Fulham would want £50m and if you can’t be investing that in a 28 year old.

I don’t know if Kerkez is possible in Jan, but I would certainly be looking at going back for Zubimendi. Apparently, RS reneged on everything they promised during the charm offensive, and his relationship with the club is now strained. I can see Guardiola making him a priority for their rebuild.

Sign me up for that. Kerkez and Zubimendi. Get the league won and then see what we have to do in the summer.

If Guardiola is sniffing around, we may not get Zubimendi. Our best hope would be in January.

Surely if Zubi has anything about him and Liverpool were back in for him as he reneged last time after saying yes, surely he would choose us? if not would’ve want him for that reason.

If he’s got a choice between us and Man City, the fact that he can speak to his manager in his own language is bound to be a big factor.
We’re fans, so we see it differently, but if I were a player it would definitely sway my decision.

That might depend on if that manager can convince him that he’ll be there in the foreseeable future

There has to be a question mark over going to Man City for any top player at this point.

How long will the manager be there for?
Is this a blip, or the start of a big fall?
What will the outcome be of all those charges? Fine? Slap on the wrist? Modest points deduction? Transfer ban? Relegation? Titles stripped? Etc. Just too many unknowns.
What will the timing be of any sanctions? E.g. If I sign a 5 year deal, will most of the five years be under a different set of circumstances than when I first signed?
Why aren’t other top stars at Man City signed up long term? Am I joining a club where players are hedging their bets?

If I’m a top player with other top options, I would swerve Man City. Or, at the least, I would want a watertight clause to be able to leave, if and when the shit hits the fan. And at that point I really can’t see Man City agreeing to that.

I remember being quite excited when we signed Joke Hole (albeit 2-3 years later than would have wanted) and then he got sent off in his first game and the die was cast.

I don’t see city making moves on the likes of Zubimendi with their future still up in the air.

They’ll meed to get over that.

If we are in for Zubimendi , we should be getting it done in January.

Hopefully if we are in for him, the groundwork is already done and he signs early January. He will be signing for the long haul, but strengthening asap will be of benefit.

I’m guessing the last minute about face in the summer, coupled with Gravy’s brilliance, means we would probably have reservations about going in as strongly for him in January. Kerkez on the other hand! If we could get him in Jan…

How similar are Basque and Catalan?
