Who would you buy?

That’s fair. I was thinking if we sold Chiesa, would we perhaps allocate that position to a younger player to be a sixth attacker, someone who’d feature in cup games and occasionally on the bench?

I think the impact of injuries during that key spell is underappreciated. Losing our RBs along with Gakpo made a big difference.

Maybe we’ll go with 5 attackers next season.

Yeah I think if Chiesa leaves we wouldn’t replace him and someone like Doak, Koumas or a random jumble of whoever is left over at youth level could take that depth role. It’s not likely to get much playing time though.

Can also be a senior player from another position filling in.

Wasn’t there some talk last summer of Dom potentially playing on the right?

Both he and Jones have been used as one of the wide options in those late game adaptations you sometimes need to make. Dom has done it on either side before he came to liverpool. So it’s an option. One we will likely see at some point, but unlikely to be one we base our squad building around.

I disagree with this. It’s well-known that even Jürgen was really conservative, and I’ve been on record over and over again arguing that this cost us last season. I think it’s far easier for managers to keep sticking with the same players until the point where they have no choice.

If Robertson leaves we absolutely cannot sell Doak. Liverpool have never won a league title without a Scot, after all.

And we never can, provided we keep a Scot in the squad!

So you’re saying we should replace Dom with McTominay? Got it.

Scott could teach him a thing or two when it comes to scoring.

:joy:

In fairness, he usually looks good for Scotland and has done well in Italy, so maybe it was the shitness surrounding him that made him look bad before leaving the UK shores.

Can he play right back?

What I do have to point out, fine sir, is that Liverpool have never won a Premier League title (i.e. since the renaming of the First Division) without a Japanese player in their ranks.

Wouldn’t mind a player like mctominay. Just not mctominay

Little known fact. Minamino was with the team last week against Spurs, just no one saw him. Cos that how he does.

Yes, but football existed before 1992. Also, Endō exists you heretic.

I was skeptical but somehow Arnie Slot had the perfect first season as manager and won the league without a single new player coming in. (I don’t really count Chiesa, he hardly played). I think Slot needs more help for the following season though.

We definitely have needs at left back and striker. Kerkez for the left back should be a priority. Selling Nunez for whatever we can get back and getting a proper #9 should help strengthen us to contend again next season.

Romano claims Isak would be our dream target but he will cost at least 100m so it depends on how much we can gain from player sales to fund that purchase. Also hearing some rumor buzz about Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers but he plays AMC so not sure if he fits into Slot’s plans or our current needs.

If we can’t land Isak, then perhaps Atletico’s Julian Alvarez would be a nice compensation prize. He scored 15 goals in La Liga this past season.

You see I’ll let the club do what they know best. I know it’s not the spirit of the thread but it’s evident we will spend and from the fact that Hughes was spot on with Slot and his work at Bournemouth I trust him to do his job.

It’s odd really how his appointment has been justified and it’s not down to a single transfer deal he has done here at Liverpool.
